After seeing the Bond Pet thread, I thought it might be fun to have a thread dedicated to our real-life pets :cooltongue:

... Ok, everybody else, lets see the pet pics

After seeing reference to this among your Posts, I wanted to weigh in (again, better late than never). This is Timber, a Samoyed who will be 9 this summer: W/in months of being the exact same age as my son.

Posted Image

He gets along well w/ two other cats and a Corgi-Lab mix I have named Brody. Well, except when the two of them decide it's time to go huntin' whenever a stray creature happens into the yard.

Thank you. We hear that a lot. And, as you might imagine, it's a comment often made in contrast to Brody, below.

Posted Image

Brody is actually a rescue dog from the Humane Society; we think he's three. Probably the smartest dog you're ever likely to meet. In this picture, he's indulging my son by wearing a "Super-Dog" costume bought for him from the pet shop we pass on our walks; that was Halloween 2006.

For Christmas, one of my aunt's poodles (about the size of the great cats I see Posted here, or, for another point of reference: About the size of Brody's head) decided to pick a fight by biting Brody on the nose. Her teeth actually took hold and offered a bit of resistance as she tried to release! There was nothing anyone could do but watch Brody's reaction - which was no more than to turn his eyes toward her. Didn't move his head an inch.

He's in training for certification as a Therapy Dog now. (Seriously.) Pretty laid back fellow.

Wow awesome! Even the consummate pro Sheesha (the Moe.. see page 1) would have bitten back, and she's a very docile dog..

Go humane society dogs, they're the best!

At the risk of taking this in too "preachy" a direction, I couldn't agree w/ you more here! Timber is, as you might guess, a thoroughbread and we wouldn't trade him for the world. He is actually a good example as "big brother dogs" go to Brody (tho' he has no where near the energy level at play time!).

So if one wants a pure bread, and papers and whatnot, that's great.

But I just hate to see folks dismiss what's out there at the shelters. People on the street seem every bit as interested in knowing what sort of "mix" Brody came from as they are in Timber's lineage. Our own Humane Society here locally has a group of volunteers who go in and walk the rescue dogs routinely to keep them social and exercised. They have provisions for you to go in, spend time w/ the dogs. Heck, you can pick a dog that's already housebroken. And it's continues to be really fun for me to learn from Brody what he already knows (as you might expect, he could shake hands; but he also had great loose-leash walking commands, which I'd discover by the way he'd react to conversational instructions I gave him).

Black dogs are often hardest to place. But in terms of personal safety, can you imagine anything better? One night I was out w/ him, and a stranger w/ not so pleasant demeanor was approaching. I didn't know what to expect, and I didn't want to find out. So I tugged on Brody's leash and said, "no attack, no attack." And the guy gave us a wide path. (Brody just looked at me, as he had no idea what I was talking about: Like I said, generally calm.)

He also quickly identified my boy as the most vulnerable member of the family. As we initially socialized Brody, we learned that it was HIS interest to stake out positions where he could watch Number One Son. Any sort of unknown person comes into the house, and he places himself in between. At night now, he always sleeps at the foot of my son's bed.

Thanks for listening!

It's very true.. I think shelter dogs are actually better demeanor-wise - they seem really grateful that you got them out of there! Some pure bred dogs have a lot more health problems too, must as I'd like a greyhound one of these days, I know I'll end up with a shelter dog.. Sheesha's the best dog ever, the plan forever after this is to try to find another dog as good as she is (and she obviously came from a shelter).

Cats on the other hand :cooltongue: Hehe, shelter cats are good too, but the Stank is just cheeky (always has been..) How else could he be the only chubby kitten out of a litter of "horder" cats? Because he steels (only one of his many vices.. wrath comes to mind as well )

Well, they aren't pets, but they are neighbors of Miss Bellucci's in the mountains.

A little trio of Raccoons. She left them a little snack, and now they show up every few nights. The cute thing is, she's bought them off. They'll terrorize all the neighbors trash cans, but now leave her's alone.

She got a few great shots, but this one is the best.

Very cute. A buddy of mine had one growing up. Benny was the unofficial mascot of all the kids in the neighborhood. He's since passed on to the great doggy park, but Jynx's ears remind me of him.

Cats love to help. They always used to help Mom do the dishes. It was not an uncommon sight to see a tail hanging in the dishwater.
