At the end of the scene in which Bond is revived after going into cardiac arrest, he starts to clean himself up to head back to the card table.

Ah! I am NOT crazy, today at least. Thank you.

As far as coincidence, do you really think so? This is P&W quoting themselves after 10 years since they first penned the line. They couldn't think of anything else?

Incidentally, what was Wailin's previous line that Pierce wouldn't dream of doing?

I believe he said it near the very end of GoldenEye when Bond and Natalia (sp) are surprised by Jack Wade!

"Don't get any ideas, Mr. Bond."

Other than also being used in TND, I think "I wouldn't dream of it" in Casino Royale is reminiscent of Brosnan because Craig delivers it in a very Broz way.

"Don't get any ideas", said after she repositioned herself on the bike by sitting on Bond's lap, facing him. There was probably another instance somewhere else in a Bond movie, though.

I also think the "I'm all ears" line (from the same CR scene in question) sounds oddly familiar.

Surprised no one's picked up on this yet. P&W couldnt be quoting themselves, period. Why? Because they didn't write TND, they werent hired until TWINE.

Plus, it's Wai Lin, with a space.

I can't remember who said the line before but it's a pretty common phrase to use.

Yeah common phrase. It's an incredibly tough gig, screenwriting. There genuinely aren't many ways to say things that haven't been said already. Or, rather, ways to say them that are as cool, neat or rhythmic as what's gone before. And because popular media like film freezes all the dialogue in aspic for all time...well, it's tough.

Sometimes, though, it CAN just be lazy - as Mankiewicz' "Science was never my strong suit" appearing in both DaF (from Blofeld) and TMWTGG (from Scaramanga) testifies. Apart from anything else, both characters clearly DO know plenty about the sience of what they're doing. It's just a vaguely decent line used to conclude a 'how this thing works' dialogue run.

It's not the first time one Bond has used another's line. Connery uses "Bon appetit" when he disposes of the large henchman Hans in YOLT and Dalton uses the same line after disposing of the guard in Krest's warehouse in LTK.

Connery uses a line about being a hell of a time to be superstitious in FRWL and Lazenby says he's superstitious when he throws the knife in Draco's office and Draco says "But today is the 13th, commander."

And even Connery uses the same line twice, although one was cut. He says "The things I do for England" when caressing Fiona in TB, but the line was cut, only to be used on another redhead, Ms. Brandt, in YOLT.

There are probably other cases as well.

I figure it to be a slight homage on Craig's part to honor Brosnan without going overboard or trying to seem distractingly [censored]-kissy of him or the audience.

Possibly because they are both remakes of Goldfinger? hehehe. Anyone know if Connery says it in GF? :)

The Bond movies have been recycling themselves, as well as current movie entertainement, for years. Nothing surprising in there.

After recent review, I have no doubt that Cody is right. I think this line is an intentional look back at Broz. If the writers did not intend it to be so, at the very least Craig did. He delivers it as truly as any Brosnan impersonator could.
After all, Craig does talk about the encouragement he received from Pierce upon accepting the role of Bond. I would not be surprised if that conversation inspired this generous little nod to his predecessor.

The inflections are just about dead on. Too dead on for me to be able to dismiss it as coincidence. They know better than to fall back into such cliched "Bond talk" in their brand new, "redefining Bond" movie. Had to be on purpose. I could have easily done without it, but THAT is the way to break the fourth wall without painting a target on your forehead. (Never have liked the "other fellow" bit. :cooltongue:)

I think the "I wouldn't dream of it" in Casino Royale and in the Brosnan movies actually started with Roger. Roger used to always say, "the thought never crossed my mind" which is a form of the dreaming line.

Good point. And Connery would say something like "Would I do that to you?" with a smile.

Yes, that line in CR makes me think of Brosnan every time, which is not a bad thing in my book. I like little nods to the other Bonds. M even talks about missing the Cold War - something she didn't like in Goldeneye.

Actually, isn't Brosnan's line in Goldeneye "I wouldn't think of it", during the Q scene?

"You've got a licence to kill. Not to break the traffic laws"

"I wouldn't think of it".

In the December 05 draft I remember noticing that Bond said "wouldn't dream of it" several times through the movie. One time was when M warned him not to break in to her house again.
