An ad in Variety announces the 25th Anniversary of Bond and the 15th Bond film (sound familiar?). Already we have the Daylights logo and the grill of a DB5 suggests a return to a

The Advance one-sheet pitches the new Bond Timothy Dalton very effectively. I remember this sheet was a shocker after the era of painted posters, but a welcome and exciting change.

Shortly before release of the film a pirated VHS copy of Daylights hit the streets, necessitating this unusual (and now highly collectible) one sheet.

The amazing UK poster offers us the last of the painted Bond one-sheets.

An unusual ad in a U.S. newspaper mixes the US and UK posters and, again, downplays Bond (who is almost non-existent here).

Excellent stuff, as usual zencat. Although I think you are mistaken on the first poster: that grill appears to belong to a DB4, not a DB5, I think.

I stand corrected. Nice catch.

Another 5 star thread, zencat. :)

The UK poster is my fave out of the lot, but as my favourite colour is blue, I'm a sucker for the US one-sheet as well. The curvy "assassin" helps, of course.

The UK poster has been one of my favorites since I first saw it. I love the whole gunbarrel motif (not only in that particular poster but the whole campaign) and it's sort of a last tribute to the era of painted posters.

I'm amazed by Marshall's work....they need to have him do all the posters for the films, like Lucas does with Drew Struzan's Star Wars posters.....high quality painted posters rock....

Yes, that UK one is a beauty. And I think you may be right on the asassin's assets being larger on the 25th anniversary version. Don't ask why. Those two posters with the girl's silhouette remind reminds me of the Octopussy poster with the girl in the pink dress in the same pose.

I still remember not hearing much at all about The Living Daylights in the spring of '87. My mom took my brother to a sci-fi convention in Columbus, Ohio and came back with not only several posters for the 25th anniversary special, but the TLD teaser. I loved the teaser poster and still do. It heralded a newer, tougher Bond and the tagline was brief and to the point. I even bought a generic version of the poster at a gift shop and it still hangs in my old room at my parents' house.

The U.S. version was pretty generic and carries no motif at all, giving no indication of what the movie is about. I've always preferred the international versions.

I love the score. I bought the tape when it first came out in 87, and it promptly got eaten up in the player from being played too much. It would not be until 1998 when I got the expanded CD that I was quite happy. I saw the movie back then at my hometown theater and I liked it back then. The poster is pretty good, too, despite the fact Dalton is on it. Dalton as Bond has not aged well for me at all. While I am sure he's a fine actor, he's just not believable as James Bond. Fleming created Bond as the fella he wished he was in real life. In the 60s, men wanted to be Bond, women wanted to be with Bond. With Dalton, you have none of those things. To me, he was an unhappy Welsh Shakespearean actor who didn't want the fame Bond brought him. He was apparently perfectly suited to play parts with Fran Drescher and have to beg for parts for films on the Fox Family Channel. The movie TimeShare has to be seen to be believed.
