Writing a review for the newest Bond film is never easy when you are an ardent fan of all 21 films (including the unofficial Never Say Never Again). The problem is simply this: I have a completely biased opinion of Bond. I love ALL of the films, even the ones that most critics have panned. So going into the latest Bond epic I already knew I was at the very least going to enjoy myself. With that said this is a Bond fan's look at the latest incarnation, Casino Royale.

There has been much discussion on how this version of Casino Royale (the third attempt at adapting the novel

Great review, Ry. :)

Never in my lifetime in watching these films on the big screen was I more excited to see the final words of the film, "James Bond Will Return".

Great line there...and so true. I felt the same way.

I'm glad you all liked the review. This will be a Bond film I will always remember seeing as it was with many CBners who are now good friends. The fact that the film is great doesn't hurt either.

This is still a James Bond film, but it is one with a heart and soul, and from my thinking there is nothing wrong with that. "

Absolutely. Bond is only better for it to have emotions and fallability...and realitic action, and a freakin spy story...this is a Bond film in the Le Carre world. I love it. Great review. James Will Return is finally(I didn't give a damn last time I saw those words), great news! :)

I didn't even see it after DAD, I had already stormed out of the theater wondering how a movie with such promise at the beginning so thoroughly collapsed in on itself.

CR was a very different experience.

Moneypenny was in the book. Q didn't exist yet. "Director of S" was a major character behind the scenes. That meant Director of Soviet Affairs for MI6. This person was Vesper's boss.

And he (or she) apparently didn't know Vesper was working for "Redland".

There are moments of explanation throughout the film that if one is not paying close attention you might lose the motivation of the characters (especially at the start of the film). This actually could have been easily remedied with more explanation throughout.

A great review, Ry!

The quote above describes something that wasn't a problem for me, rather a very strong positive. I really disike it when movies make it a point to "explain" the movie to me. I love it when subsequent viewings reveal some subtlety or nuance that I had missed before.

However, I can see how your point is very valid for the general audience who won't ever watch the film again. Since I'll be watching this one plenty of times for years to come, it's not a problem here...
