Video interview on STV

Another nugget I stumbled upon recently was a video interview Daniel Craig did with STV. Not sure if anyone on CBN has reported on this yet, but I thought I'd mention it just in case.

Towards the end of the interview, the journalist asks Craig about his future as Bond. "Any indication of how long you

I hope he does!!!

What he has to do is keep making outside projects, but make your money on 007.

Not only would this be nice for those of us who enjoyed CASINO ROYALE, but it would be a lovely thing to throw in the faces of those who are openly or secretly hoping he will bow out as soon as possible. Perhaps the planned meeting in January to discuss 22 will yield news of a contract extension.

Now that the film is out, and a pretty big success, it seems like Craig has changed his tune.

One of the biggest disappointments of the Brosnan era for me is how short it was. I felt Brosnan could have (and should have) done at least two more. I hope Craig does at least 6, that would be sweet :)

Realistically though, once his current contract is fulfilled he'll negotiate for one Bond pic at a time. That's the smartest thing to do from a business perspective and also a way for him to ensure the quality of the scripts. Craig will probably (dare I say almost definitely?) want to approve of the script before he signs on the dotted line for each Bond film beyond #23. And since the producers are not likely to want to let him go (he may prove to be the most popular Bond since Connery!), they will hopefully come up with some meaty scripts to entice him! One can hope, right? :)

the amount i think he should do depends on how long there is between them. if there is a 2 year break between each one i wouldnt mind him doing around 5. i just hope that he has some input so that they make sure to give him better scripts then they gave brosnan.

The good news is that part of Craig's agreeing to be Bond was based on the idea that he would be given a say in more than just the acting. Check out this interview excerpt from Movies Online.

After all the mean spiritness Craig's had to put up with, this is most welcome news. He truly is a gracious man.

Indeed.

This is fantastic news. Casino Royale was a great breath of fresh air for this franchise, I would be nothing short of ecstatic if Daniel Craig were to continue in the role for a long, long time. And, I can't imagine that EON would dismiss him from the part any time soon after all the effort they went through to get him (over a year of negotiations, yielding some creative control, etc.) Maybe this is the beginning of a long era of Daniel Craig Bond films. :)

one thing made me happy about the interview was his assertion that he would not have done DAD, and that he didn't accept CR until he read the script, that means that he will demand a good script before doing Bond22.

he is also funny..I liked that interview :)

Craig should stick around until it becomes clear that he shouldn't stick around any longer. In other words, we'll know when the time comes.

Agreed. Hopefully we'll get a 6 or 7 film tenure from him before it's all said and done.

Well he only had that choice for CR...he's now contracted to do more Bonds, so good script or bad script, he's doing the movie. However, I do think EON are certainly going to keep up the quality, the box office results which are on course to beat DAD, are showing that a quality product does sell better than a 'throw explosions and CGI everywhere' movie. :)

Although, in America Bond might get a slight boost if he had a CGI penguin for a sidekick. :P

Exactly. I remember a quote for Die Another Day that went something along the lines of: 'They've hit this one out of the park...' but it seems much more fitting for Casino Royale now.
