What will follow "The Japan Book?"

Re-reading the CB.N Benson interview, I figure RB is currently in the "daydreaming" stage or maybe even the early stages of the outline for "Benson 7." Where will Bond go? Will Bond battle terrorists, or will RB steer clear of current events and maybe write a more experimental Bond novel in the vein of HTTK? Or will 2003 be the year of the oft-mentioned short story collection?
I say send Bond to Africa.

I wouldn't mind seeing more stories that develope over the period of a couple books such as the Union Trilogy or what Fleming did from Thunderball-TMWTGG.
I'm really looking forward to a short story collection since I haven't the chance yet to have read any of them other than the VERY short Live At Five in TV Guide.

Of course I would prefer an original, but I think RB is due for a year break (Gardner took his after only four books).

1. 007 goes to war
2. International banking (we've had media, oil, shipping etc tycoons, but NOT this theme before). These guys own the world, don't they ?.
3. THE JAPAN BOOK is to NDOD as YOLT is to OHMSS, therefore send 007 to the Carribean...why ?...because TMWTGG followed YOLT.

I don't think I'm ready for something THAT experimental. Not yet at least. I mean, face it, the two most experimental books in the Bond canon (TSWLM and TMFBB) and not the best books in the world.Mister Asterix (15 Oct, 2001 09:49 p.m.):
I'd like to see something as experimental as TSWLM. Maybe first-person a tale that Bond is the only character or something odd like that.

I don't think Mr. Benson is quite ready for something that experimental, either. However, I read TSWLM after reading about three-quarters of Fleming's books, and I found it refreshing and different. Though, I think it would have peeved me if I were around when it originally came out and I knew I had to wait another year for a 'real' Bond story, so it might be a good idea if there was to be a new book that wild that it come out the same year as a novelization or a batch of short stories.

Live At Five was only around pages wasn't it? I was foolish enough to throw out that TV Guide afterwards. (I was just seriously getting into Bond then and didn't think of saving it.)
Didn't Gardner take a break after Role of Honor for health reasons? Plus it's my understanding that he still did his own original novels also. I just hope the novilization doesn't ever end up being the Bond book for the year like with Goldeneye.

How's this for an idea? Glidrose should make 2003 the year of the short story book. Maybe have Benson do one more story to make it 4, then round out the book with his stage play adaptation of Casino Royale. Of course the book would be called...

I like that idea, oh feline of enlightenment. I really look forward to reading the full length BLAST FROM THE PAST some day and I have always suspected (with no proof mind you) that there was more to LIVE AT FIVE. Also the CASINO ROYALE stage play should make interesting reading.
I'm not sure were Benson currently stands on MIDSUMMER'S NIGHT DOOM. I recall him at one time saying that MND would not be in a collection of short stories as it was more of a Playboy story than a Bond story. Perhaps RayBen has had a change of heart.
And I've said this idea before but I think Glidrose should tack on 007 IN NEW YORK to any Benson short story collection. It would be nice to get that story in to an official Bond book.
