Finally we "Krauts" can also have the pleasure to see CR. My father and I just came home from cinema. To be honest after DAD I thought that Bond is dead. A soulless movie with invisible cars, poor story and tooooooo much special effects lay behind me. But Bond fans like us can't stand it if there is no 007 in cinema waiting for us. When Craig than was announced as new Bond I was not a 100% sure if he could bring order to the chaos Brosnan left behind. But I said to myself and all people who wanted to know, that we should give him a chance. One year I read everything I could find about the movie and now I saw it.

"Let's get down to business!"

The movie starts interesting. The b/w scenes look great and have a wonderful atmosphere. They are shorter than I had expected but nevertheless work very well. The give the direction the whole movie is going to take. We see a hard edged Bond who kills in cold blood. The Titles are nice but nothing really special. I consider Kleinmann`s Titles for GE still as the best of the entire series. The Titles also lead to the new direction the movie is going to take. And it's obviously that there is a new direction. We see Bond in Madagascar watching a subject. In this scene he looks more like Jack Bauer than our well known 007. The following chase is a great piece of action but when it comes to all these scenes in the Embassy I again thought, where is 007? Would the Bond I thought to know that well do such stupid things? Well I think not... But after all it's entertaining. The scenes on the Bahamas look great. And here we find another scene that seems very unlikely. Bond parking(or rather damaging) that car. Would 007 do something like that? Again I think not. From here on the movies becomes fast. We see great action and it doesn't slow down. The scene at the Airport is one of the best action scenes of the whole franchise. So, in another way, is the scene with Vesper in the train. It contains one of the best dialogs in a Bond movie ever. There is a really great working chemistry between Craig and Green. This chemistry works through the whole movie. Especially the scene with the two of them in the shower is a great moment. In this scene all the "more emotional" stuff really pays of. The poker game is also well made and really thrilling. My father has no idea of poker but thinks it's exciting that shows that the none Poker playing audience can understand without problems. The torture scene was also a good one but rather short( I know it's cut). When all this happened the movie looses a bit of it's drive. It becomes to romantically(may be nice for the girls) and the final is a bit to exaggerated. But the line at the end is quite cool and it's these magical words which made me feel like I was watching a Bond movie. None of the previous did.

"Don't bother showing me the rest."

CR has a wonderful cast. Mads Mikkelsen is really a great villan. He brings this great psychological thing into his role. Eva Green also delivers a good show. She plays Vesper in a very mysterious way that makes her role so interesting(although I think Caterina Murino is more tempting). And all the rest is doing well too.

"You are a clever and resourceful man, Mr Bond."

Let's come to the main character. First of all: Daniel Craig is a great actor and has this taking presence. He plays a harder and more cruel Bond than any other actor did before him. He delivers his lines brilliant and does wonderful action sequences. But he doesn't feel like Bond. His Bond is not sophisticated and has not the style the role needs. They wanted to create a Bond who is more like the Bond of the novels. Well he is not. The Bond we know from the book has all these characteristic attributes(style etc). Craig's Bond has not. Vesper for example lectures him about his clothes. And when he orders champagne I have the feeling that this guy should more likely order beer. I know some of you will say that he will learn all these things and I really hope so. But we should keep in mind that Craig is 38 and let's say his Bond is in the same age. He should know these things by now. I think it is rather forced that he doesn't know them yet. I also think that the franchise has needed a new way but after all Bond should feel like Bond. And for me he does not really do yet. Craig's future movies will show if he will be more Bondian.

"James Bond will return"

Casino Royal is a good movie. It's exciting and all that. But for me it has a bitter aftertaste. And through all our enthusiasm we should think that maybe not all new ways are necessary.
For me Dalton remains as the actor that is closest to the books.

Cool review, I disagree on Bond actions at the embassy or parking the car being "unbondish". These scenes show how immature he is so far, the whole movie is about the arc the character makes, from immature spy to mature spy.
