Is this video interview on the net JimmyBond? I thought maybe the organization was the password: Ellipses!

He didn't "mention that." They asked him specifically and he didn't rule it out. I would say there's a difference.

Ellipses was just a password for the security doors at Miami International. It's nothing more than that.

I truly do hope the SPECTRE returns. You can't really have Ian Fleming's James Bond without Blofeld and SPECTRE. I hope if they bring Blofeld back, they make him the tall monsterous man with long grayish hair...and not the iconic cue-ball we've seen in the past. though I do love Donald Pleasents' revealing moment in YOLT.

Isn’t it it ‘Ellipsis’ not ‘Ellipses’?

I have no idea. You're probably right. I never said I could spell. :) Both are words though, I think. The latter is the plural form of the former... Right?

I really wouldn't mind if it was just some new organization we haven't seen before and not SPECTRE.

Personal preferrence aside. Telly Savalas's protrayal of Blofeld was more gritty and down to earth. No hollowed out volcanoes (I know everyone loves a good volcano hideout, myself included), no army of faceless ninjas or uniformed SPECTRE guards. He was very hands on, breeding the bacteria, mesmerizing the girls, leading the hunt for Bond on skis himself instead of directing it from a huge stainless steel command center. Machine gunning Bond's bride Tracy instead of sending a hulking henchmen out. If they do bring back SPECTRE and Blofeld (which would thrill me to no end) the OHMSS model is quite more down-to-earth and much more in sync with new grittier 007. Just sayin'

I agree. Even though I know the first few Craig films are rebooting the series, I can't help thinking that SPECTRE arrives with the coming of Sean Connery and Dr. No. While the idea of SPECTRE is neat in theory, I think a new organization would be better.

The Union is probably out because EON likely won't use a Raymond Benson story. My choices would be:

the Phoenix
Anaconda
Cobra
Black Mamba
the Brotherhood
Doomsday
Apocalypse
and (the) Legion

I think it's important to remember here that while CASINO ROYALE is a modernized but direct adaptation of Fleming's first novel, subsequent Craig adventures are unlikely to follow the Fleming catalogue in any way except basic style. Barbara Broccoli has said that we shouldn't expect remakes of the earlier films but all new adventures. For this reason, even if SPECTRE and Blofeld return, they will not be the same SPECTRE and Blofeld seen in the earlier films, and there's no reason to assume that the writers will feel bound to adhere to Fleming's SPECTRE chronology. We could easily get both organization and leader in upcoming films without ever having to get into OMHSS and YOLT territory, and the new incarnations of both could be far less fantastic and more grounded in reality than their previous cinematic or literary counterparts. The hang up people have with this seems to be their unwillingness to accept CR as the beginning of a new timeline which is not connected to the previous films. That's a topic for another thread, but suffice it to say that saying the earlier films don't fit with this one is not the same as saying that the earlier films aren't important or worth watching anymore. I, for one, would love to see this Bond face his own versions of SPECTRE and Blofeld. Bottom line - are they really going to be able to come up with a better name for an evil global terror organization? I don't think so.

I agree that the Union is highly unlikely, as are COLD, BAST, or any variation of SPECTRE modeled after Gardner's novels. If they were going to bororw those elements, why not simply adapt the novels?

The organization that Mr. White works for in CR (as shadowy as it's protrayed) does "feel" like a new incarnation of what Fleming was trying to do with SPECTRE (and even early in the series with SMERSH). Wouldn't bother me to have that foe back, and see a new take on Blofeld--like we've just seen a new take on Bond.

I also like that there's a personal stake in it for Bond, that seems very Fleming too IMO.

I like The Syndicate but would also be happy with it being basically nameless. It would just be The Organisation.

Here's some suggestions for a name, most of which I'm not too crazy about:
THE ORG
ORG ....?
S.W.A.R.M. (Secret World Armed Resistance Movement)
SMERSH
D.N.A.
A.C.I.D.
V.I.P.ER
EL MYSTERO (The Mystery)
SPECTROS

I sort of like the idea of an organization that MI6/CIA know so little about they don't even know if it has a name...

I hope to God the name isn't an acronym. That's what kills it half the time because they either try too damn hard to come up with something "cool" or they don't try hard enough. Reminds me of the video game No One Lives Forever (if you haven't played it, you should - it's like a 60s Austin Powers video game and it's actually really good) in which the evil organization is "H.A.R.M." which is a cool name, but no one in the organization even knows what it means (running gag) - it just sounds cool. :) (probably lifted from Agent for H.A.R.M.)
