Oh
My
GOD!
I never thought I would see a Bond movie like this. Somehow EON/SONY/Campbell managed the impossible, to fuse the best of the Connery era with the emotional punch of OHMSS to create a Bond masterpiece. Congratulations to every single person who worked on Casino Royale. Nobody does it better.
My head is still spinning, I can't write any kind of proper review.
Daniel Craig was amazing. Easily the true heir to Sean Connery. The attitude, the swagger, the intensity, its all here. Bond is back, and he's cooler than ever. Craig is an unstoppable juggernaut in the action scenes, and so casually shifts gears into the romantic material as to make it all look so effortless. YOU WANT TO BE THIS JAMES BOND (except for the chair and rope bit, possibly)
Eva Green was lovely, wonderful chemistry with Craig. I bought into their love affair completely. And yes, I CRIED! And I'm a manly man, I'll have you know.
Minor flaws - very, very minor flaws - I didn't care for Ludger Pistor's comedy banker character, was a bit too Nigel Small-Fawcett for my liking, and Mathis' commentary during the poker game was a bit too obviously 'telling the non-poker players in the audience what's going on'. There, that's it. That's everything that's bad about Casino Royale. The rest is 00-heaven.
Has there ever been a more joyous ending to a Bond film than this? David Arnold's score creeps up on you, Daniel Craig says the line of lines, and - BAM.
James Bond will return. And so will I - to see Casino Royale again ASAP.
Brilliant. I LOVE CASINO ROYALE!
