So, I went to the local cinema to see the first showing of the 21st James Bond film 'Casino Royale', at midnight. Well, it was absolutely amazing. For the first time in my life I sat through a Bond movie in the theatre and was truly excited and tense and whatnot throughout the whole film. The last three I cannot say that about. The thing that jumped out at me right away was Daniel Craig. I knew he was going to do a good job but I wasn't expecting this good of a job. He looks, feels, and acts as though he's not Daniel Craig the actor but rather James Bond 007 from Ian Fleming's novels leaping from page to screen. He's incredible and, I'd never thought I'd say this, has dethroned Sean Connery in my eyes and taken the spot at number one in the best Bond category.

I was amazed how closely they stuck to the book while adding to and actually improving upon it in almost every way. I was riveted to the screen from start to finish. The black and white PTS? Awesome. In fact, that word can be applied to every single scene in the film. I'm 10 hours and a good sleep away from when I left the theatre and I still cannot really compose any really good thoughts about the film. Mainly, that's because I'd end up describing every single scene and I dont feel like typing that much so I'll just leave it at the word 'awesome' to describe Casino Royale...truly awesome.

The score was even better with the film, especially the title song. I really hope they release the version of YKMN used in the film because it is far and away the best one. Oh, YKMN and the title's it accompanied are now the best Bond theme and main titles ever. David Arnold has really outdone himself this time and if he continues this kind of work I would more than welcome him back for Bond 22, rather than lament it as I did when he was hired back for this one.

The action setpieces were the most exciting sequences since License To Kill. I felt the sense of danger and suspense they were aiming for. Once again, can't say that about the last three.

Oh, I have to mention the rest of the cast. Fantastic. Period. There wasn't a bad performance in the film. Judi Dench was a great M, Mads did Le Chiffre almost exactly as I pictured him in the book, and the others were just as good. And in the eye candy dept? Holy jumping f-in Jesus! Words cannot describe the beauty of Eva Green and the Solange babe (I never can remember her real name very well) is a pretty hot cookie, too. I couldn't take looking at Vesper in the casino scenes, at points, she's just too gorgeous.

Well, that's my lame attempt at a cohesive review. Bottom line is that Casino Royale is the best Bond film yet. EON will have a tough road ahead to beat it but if they display the effort and smarts they did with this one I'm confident I'll be just as pleased come 2008.

One more thing, ummm...I have an itch, ya know, down there. You think you could help me out?

And one other thing, I was very pleased at how into the film the audience was, they laughed at most of the jokes, let out cheers at the end, and I swear to you that every male in the theatre and even a couple females let out a collective *GASP!!!* when they realized what Le Chiffre was going to do with that rope. Compare that with the last three where even I, a huge Bond fan, was nowhere close to the edge of my seat. In fact, I almost fell asleep at one point in TWINE.

Oh and Daniel Craig is definitely not ugly, almost every woman I know, and many I didn't know who were in that theatre thought he was pretty damned attractive. My friend sitting next to me exclaimed "God, he's [censored]ing hot!" at least 3 times...so there ya go, haters. The guy has the sex appeal of Connery, the physical aptitude of Laz, and the dark intensity of Dalton...and then some in all 3 areas. What's not to like?

Amen mate! Great review! I'm looking forward to seeing the film for a second time tonight. I'll post a review after I've given it another gander.

I agree! I'm still in shock! I was expecting it to be good but not the greatest Bond film!
