Lot's of great tracks standout for me, which is a pleasant surprise coming from David Arnold! I always did think he had the potential to pull it off, and for the most part he did, considering he wasn't steadfast on using techno this time out.
My favorite tracks are as follows:
African Rundown - I particularly like the part from about 45 seconds to 1:30, which sounds a lot like "Hercules Takes Off" cue from The Living Daylights. Both utilize a rousing brass heavy, orchestral version of the main theme, accompanied by a similar percussion line.
Blunt Instrument and CCTV - Both are throwbacks to the earthy, moody sounding underwater music from Thunderball.
Solace, Dinner Jacket, Vesper and City of Love continue Arnold's tradition of strong romantic themes, with a classic John Barry sound.
The Name's Bond...James Bond - This one speaks for itself!
Lots of John Barry sounding tracks mixed with Arnold's touch perfectly sets the mood for the film. While some of Arnold's "suspense" cues continue to lack much of an identity, his work overall on this soundtrack is a vast improvement from his previous two Bond soundtracks, and represents a more mature sound. Hopefully this trend continues for Bond 22!
