It'd be nice to see Jeffrey Wright return again.
As long as he's the official version of Bernie Casey...then me too.

The way I see it, Felix Leiter is the american equivalent of Bond.
- The look
- Mannerism
- Age
Then Felix got soggy around the middle, he got older, they got different actors every time, and then he was fed to a shark...and that was it for Felix.
Although, they did have David Hedison play Leiter twice:
1) Live and Let Die-1973
2) Licence to kill-1989
Does anyone remember what happened to Jack Lord?

I heard that the producers felt that he was in danger of overshadowing Connery so they let him go.. I just rewatched Dr. No, and he does have a very powerful presence in the film. I think the beauty of Jeffrey Wright is his ability to play smaller roles with just the right amount of noise (he's memorable but doesn't overshadow the lead.. have you guys seen Angels in America? Damn, he was good in that!)

That's one story, the other one is that Lord asked for more money. He felt he should be payed as much as Connery was getting. So the producers answered his request by recasting.

I don't about his behaviour on the Dr.No set but elsewhere he was renowned for being an obnoxious prick, cast and crew of Hawaii Five-O hated him to a man by most accounts.

Yeah, he's dead now.
Seriously though, I also heard about the potential overshadowing too, but then there was also the money aspect. He was apparently considered for the lead in the original Star Trek series as well and also demanded too much money.

Isn't that more or less because of the way R was written (very little Moneypenny and no "Q" if I remember correctly)? As Felix Leiter re-appears in CR maybee he will be back for the next bonds. We did loose Q and Moneypenny but have we gotten back Leiter?
I am anxious to see Jeffrey Wright play Leiter. I, too, enjoy the character and pray that this time they will keep the same actor in the role.

I actually rather like Hawaii 5-0, but there's something about Jack Lord opposite Sean Connery that doesn't come off as a friendly relationship. I think there's a little too much alpha-male competition between the two of them or something (or maybe Connery thought he was a prick too hehe)..
Rik Van Nutter is a much worse actor than Jack Lord, but at least he makes the relationship between Bond and Leiter believable.. Anyway, I think Jeffrey Wright may become my favorite Felix.. he really can't go wrong: He isn't too old/fat, he's an amazing actor, and he tends to play the sidekick/friend thing very well I hope he does revive the character somewhat, I miss the literary Felix

Also, the more I think about this the more I don't want 'Q' to return. Truthfully, if need be, I want 'the Armorer' back. For the films, I make a distinction. Sensible, serious, grounded, actually worked into the story like Dr. No and From Russia with Love. No more 'Q' scene like uhh every other Bond film. In fact, no gadgets.. so 'the Armorer' may only be a part of the story in a scientific explanation kind of role or something to this effect. Also forget Moneypenny. It's time to make her a background character like she is in the novels. Tone her down and go for Bond's personal secretary and establish Loelia Ponsonby, but not as simply the film replacement for Moneypenny. It'd be a decent change for the films going with something fresh yet still grounded in Fleming's original vision.

I agree that it may be time for Q to go.. That part so entirely belonged to Desmond Llewelyn that it doesn't feel right to bring him (or R) back..
The chemestry between Connery and Lois Maxwell was what made Moneypenny work so well in the early films. I haven't liked a single other Moneypenny since, and I'd LOVE to see Loelia Ponsonby make an appearance (while we're at it, lets give Tanner additional voice and bring back Goodnight)

I love Jeffrey as Felix, the seeds for his friendship as an ally with Bond were planted in Casino Royale. I'll like to see these two on the screen again, I mean Bond might also learn there are some people you can trust in the world of espionage. Felix is one of Bond's greatest allies.
Rik Lee Nutter, who is my favorite Felix, was good in Thunderball and I agree with bond_girl_double07 saying he made that relationship work. It would be great to see Jeffrey get that kind of screen time as Rik Lee had in TB.
