For those of you who have seen it, did Judy Dench's M work or not in the film? Obviously, this has had fans worried since her return was originally announced.

Haven't seen her through the whole movie, but on the basis of the clip 'The Apartment' posted in the other thread, she looks awesome.

I have been fortunate enough to see the film and - yes - Dench is superb in it. There is a genuine necessity for her character throughout the narrative. Her best line is probably at the end of the apartment scene. I won't tell you as you should see the film fresh, but it lays out M's stall effectively in terms of this new, vastly improved take on Bond the character and Bond the films.

There's no awkward book ending of the film with M scenes either. Well, that's not entirely true, but it's done less haphazardly than say THE WORLD IS NOT ENOUGH.

What I'm saying is she does have a narrative purpose this time round.

No kidding. I was dubious about her involvement - she's sleptwalked her way through the Brosnan flicks. But she finally seems to be delivering on that immense talent of hers, and it's impressive. I'm a fan of that scene. A big fan.

The scene it most reminds me of is the many Bond/M scenes from OHMSS, Bernard Lee's M was never as great since.

It's funny, but there really are a lot of connections between this film and OHMSS, it really is making this fan giddy with excitment.

After watching the M's apartment scene, I'm totally convinced that Judi Dench is Excellent as M. The dialoge between 007 and M in CASINO ROYALE is one of the best of the series !!!!

hahahaha

This is good to hear that Dench is good as M. Although I would much much muchhhhhhh rather prefer a man to play the character... but whatever.
