Amy Winehouse for 'Bond 22' title song?

Jazz pop star Amy Winehouse is being tipped to record the theme song for the next instalment of the James Bond franchise, it was revealed this week.

With Chris Cornell of Audioslave (and formerly Soundgarden) delivering his effort for the latest film, Casino Royale, starring Daniel Craig as the first new Bond in a decade, interest is high in the revamped spy thriller.

And although Cornell's current effort has bombed with critics, with the Times calling the song 'appalling', it seems producers are more than keen to bring in another big-name artist for the second of Craig's Bond outings.

"We've been in contact with the James Bond people and hopefully that'll come off in the future," Winehouse says.

Other big names to have recorded the theme song include Madonna, Wings, Duran Duran and Shirley Bassey.

Interesting...I admit, although I love jazz singers, I don't know this girl. By the way, what does it take for "critics" to actually *like* a Bond title song?

I'd much prefer male singers from now on :) i think they can capture the brutality and violence within the film, thats if Bond 22 is going to be a darker movie, like CR :P

With all the good will in the world, Amy Winehouse is not 'another big-name artist'. It's questionable if Chris Cornell is.

I like her stuff, but this is 1. far too early, 2. from a source I've never heard of 3. a very implausible artist to be picked. Then again, 4. They've apparently done a kick-[censored] adaptation of Ian Fleming's first novel starring Daniel Craig, so all bets are off.

Robbie Williams and Tina Turner always seem to turn up early on in these rumour mills. Amy Winehouse wouldn't be too implausible, but I agree that it's far too early for this to have a solid basis bearing in mind how late the decision on Cornell was made. As you said though - the rumours have to start sometime!!

Yeah, you're probably right. Williams seems to be named for every Bond film title song lately.

Not bad as a singer. But it's too early for the infromation to have some credit.

I love cinematic rumours, though. :)

I think Tony Christie was the first one mentioned. Infact he claimed he was writing the song at one point.

I admit that even though I'm rather young I am not hip to the current trends in music. But uhh.. Amy Winehouse is a big name? It would appear they're speaking strictly of the UK, but I gotta tell you, if I haven't heard of them then they're probably not a big name. Everyone else they listed was at one point or another a "big name" with the possible exception of Cornell who is known more so as a front man than a solo artist (i.e., more people would probably recognize Audioslave or Soundgarden than Cornell).

We're gonna have to file this one underneath the salt mine for now especially since they don't usually contact them this early.

Well to be fair he said he was writing a song, not the song. A lot of bands and solo artists submit songs. That used to be the case anyway.

Nope. I'm not keen on the idea of Winehouse singing a Bond theme.

I do feel that the next theme will be a thousand miles away from Cornell's YKMN. That song fits the tone of Casino Royale - I expect Bond 22 to step a little closer to what we are used to e.g. bringing back Q and Moneypenny.

I was watching The Music Factory channel yesterday, and while Amy Winehouse's video of Rehab was playing it was mentioned that she is in talks to provide the title-track to Bond 22 :)

IMHO wonderful!

I can't believe the rumour mill has already start up two years before the film's release.

Whoever does get to do it can it be decided as early as possible - after the cracking score he provided for Casino David Arnold deserves to be given as much time as possible. Goldfrapp always sounded a good idea but who knows how successful they'll be in two years time. Amy Winehouse would certainly give it a nice mix of power and darkness. And I think she's partial to the odd vodka martini...

Really? These rumours for the next film always seem to pop up during the making of the current one.

i'm not terribly impressed with amy winehouse ..... to me the only thing that separates her from every other "me too" pop diva is that she sings jazz. i can't see enough of a difference between her and any other singer to make her a strong enough candidate to sing a bond theme.

Whatever happens we all know that she won't be the one who gets the job (the first one to be rumored never does).
