Is there any evidence to suggest that, in Superman II, Clifton James is NOT playing the character of J.W.Pepper?

:)

Well, check out the cast list:

Clifton James IS in Superman 2 as the Sheriff (familiar!) who stops General Zod, Non and Ursa before getting a lesson in Kryptonian laws.

Good Lord. :) [censored]

Next thing you know and fans will be arguing whether or not Robert Brown played Admiral Hargreaves in Octopussy. :P

Wait a minute -- now there's an idea. :P :)

I never realised Clifton James was in Superman 2. He certainly milked that character for all it was worth didn't he?

His role in Superman II had nothing to do with his role in Live and Let Die. Redneck cops are his trademark.

Yeah, milked the character of a redneck cop was what I meant.

There was nothing redneck about the character Clifton James portrayed in Superman II. People are reaching, trying to find something that isn't there.
The only similarity in the characters is that they were both sheriffs.

Didn't it? Ever notice that Tom Mankiewicz (who created the JW character for LALD and TMWTGG) was "creative consultant" (a.k.a. uncredited writer) on Superman II? What an amazing coincidence! :)

Well let's see, that "Sheriff", who is curiously never named, is in Houston, which is not exactly a million miles away from Louisiana. Suppose that after his poor handling of events in LALD, and being arrested in Bangkok, J.W. was an embarrassment to the department, so got transferred to another city? :P

Well it certainly would have been a nice touch if he'd used his "black russians" line again.

Clifton James always played cops, including his two appearences on the A-Team. We know Sherrif Pepper was not transfered to another state after LALD because he said he worked for the Louisiana State police in Golden Gun. Furthermore, the personalities of Sherrif Pepper and James's Superman II Houston Idaho sherrif are very different and I don't believe they are the same person. If Superman existed in Bond's world, then why would Bond need to work? Superman could just save the day.

Theoretically, could the transfer not have happened after TMWTGG? The last we see of Pepper in that film, he looks in far more trouble than at the end of LALD.
