For some reason I get very upset about them cutting anything. LOL

I never thought they'd completely cut the torture - there are ways to neutralise it without removing it altogether. The problem is the movie getting watered down to suit some silly censors.

Usually on the BBFC site it tells you if they cut anything, but I can't find the update about the decision on their site yet

Sony probably received the news unofficially, or the BBFC's website is a bit slow.

Think a 12A was to be expected really, and as long as they haven't cut any of the torture scene I'm sure I shall be quite happy. They can get away with quite a lot in 12A movies these days.

I expected the 12A rating for the film. The Bourne films tend to be pretty badass and they only get 12 ratings.

Interesting that there's no mention of sex and nudity in the rating info.

I wonder though whether we'll end up with a stronger 15-rated version on DVD at some point to join Licence to Kill, GoldenEye and Tomorrow Never Dies.

Additional 'Director's cuts' 'Unrated versions' and 'Special/Ultimate Editions' seem to be a standard requirement of any movie release these days!

According to the BBFC website, the BBFC gave classification decisions to seven films on Friday 27 October; Casino Royale was not in that list.
15 days till the World Premiere & still no classification decision, despite the Odeon website & the Sony Pictures Casino Royale website stating the film is a 12A.

Hmm. I wouldn't expect an official website like Casino Royale's to jump the gun.

I imagine they have received word from withing the BBFC that it will be, but before it was formally approved by whatever committee they have.

Perhaps. If anything, this official site is often behind the ball! :)

Some Dutch people told me that CR would be a 16 film in the Nederlands.
I am glad it isn`t.
We have a 12 year rating; just like you UK and USA guys.

Unlike some said, the torcher wasn't cut.

Wrong. The BBFC even added this message to the website:

This film was originally seen by the BBFC in an unfinished version, for advice as to the film's suitability at '12A'. The BBFC advised the company that the torture scene placed too much emphasis on both the infliction of pain and the sadism of the villain for the requested '12A' category. When the completed version of the film was submitted for classification, reductions to the torture sequence had been made, including the removal of lingering shots of the rope, close shots of Bond's facial reaction and the substitution of a more distant shot of the beating compared to the original version. This re-edited version of the scene was considered acceptable at '12A', where the Guidelines permit violence provided there is no dwelling on detail or emphasis on injuries.

This is different from the US cut, which has the original, untouched cut of the torture scene.

England

Then you *don't* have an uncut version. You have an edited version of the torture scene. The BBFC stated as much on their website, and insiders indicated that the UK cut would have an edited torture scene long before.

Typical. At least i'll be seeing the movie in the cinema in the US. I'll just have to order the DVD from the US Amazon.com.

Well, yeah. I mean, the US version has some minor bits of the sex cut (overall the two cuts aren't that different). But I'm thankful that over here in the US, we get the uncensored torture scene, no matter how minor those edits might be.

Yes, that logic makes a lot of sense.

"Lets let them show heaps of violence, but not the consequences. That'll send the right message to the kiddies!"
