Ever since those pics of Bond holding the automatic weapon have surfaced, I've always been questioning them. Why? Because in the script Bond approaches White (this happens near the end of the film, FYI) with a handgun, says his famous line, raises the gun and that's when we segue to the credits.

So how did the automatic fit in, I wondered? Well, according to Craig himself, he lobbied to have Bond using the automatic cause he felt no one would shoot someone from afar with a pistol. I would have felt it would have been iconic if when he says "Bond James Bond, and you are?" he was holding the Walther at White, but this new way can work really well too :)

Interesting I was always thinking the automatic weapon came up in Venice.

I believe that he gets shot at with an automatic weapon in Venice, but doesn't actually use one himself.

In response to the original post, I always imagined that he used the automatic to shoot out the kneecaps of White, before drawing the handgun as he walked towards him. Imagine it may be smoother using the same weapon throughout the scene though.

They did film the scene where Bond uses the automtic in Italy, Lake Como I believe. I'm kind of curious to find out if that scene actually takes place in Italy though, probably so since Bond and Vesper do end up in Venice.

Yeah I also wondered exactly where "Mr White's Medieval Villa", to quote the script, is intended as being actually located. The filming location was on the banks of Lake Como, but it never revealed explicitly in the script where it was supposed to be. Also, the clinic where Bond recovers from his torture is definitely on Lake Como - it is acknowledged as such in the script. Guess it would be too much of a coincidence to have the clinic and Mr White's home in the same location in the world of Bond.

Don't forget this is the same series which had Bond vacationing in Monte Carlo at the exact same time Janus planned to steal the stealth helicopter.

Well, it wasn't really a vacation. He was spying on Onatopp.

It's kind of interesting that this specific Bond On Set seems to be giving away some of the plot details about Casino Royale (I judge this purely on what several CBn members are saying at the moment). The one for Die Another Day didn't seem to give much away at all from what I can remember.

Because there was no plot to give away! :)

It's cruel irony that a lot of things associated with the Brosnan era are mediocre. But the "Bond on Set: Filming of Die Another Day" is just a stupendous disappointent. And unlike what triviachamp is implying, I think a really good assortment of pictures could have been put together, Williams has it in him, just look at the CR book we now have in front of us.

Of course Williams could have used the first one as a blueprint of what should and shouldnt be done.

I definitely can't wait to get it and compare to Die Another Day's.

No. He was around Nice with Caroline being evaluated when he coincidentally saw Onnatopp. Later he goes to Monte Carlo which isn't far and he coincidentally meets her again at the casino. That's when he begins spying. Not too big of a coincidence, however, considering they "share the same passions - 3 anyway." Why he was in Southern France in the first place.... who knows. Could have been vacationing, finishing another mission, stationed there until needed by M. Who knows, who cares. :P

To throw this thread even further off topic, press kits for the film reported that Bond was being evaluated to see if he was fit to return to the service. You know, after the events of Licence to Kill, that is.

You know, I never looked at it that way. That's a nice little connection.

Per IMDB.com the location was the 'Villa Gaeta, Lake Como, Lombardia, Italy.' Here's a picture I found online and the match seems perfect: Villa a Punta la Gaeta on Lake Como So maybe a case of everything being in the right place at the right time ... :)

Just to stray further off topic - how do I go about reading the script? I stayed away from all spoliers pre-Casino Royale - now I want to spoil myself rotten.

If anyone can PM me with details, I'd be very grateful.
