asking those who have read it...what did you think of benson's latest 007 novel? i bought it on wednesday, finishing it yesterday. i'm probably among the minority to say its not his best when it comes to characterisation. i mean, Benson, as always, has Bond down to a T and excellently deals with Bond's japanese history (i'm currently rereading the fleming novels and cannot wait to read YOLT). It was great to see Tiger again! all the supporting cast are well developed, but i cannot help thinking that "kappa" is somewhat more developed than Yoshida. Seeing as he is "the man with the red tattoo", too much about his character is offered too late in the novel. well for me, anyway.

apart from that...you have surpassed yourself, mr benson! (except for maybe NDOD, which was a damn fine novel, and in my eyes, benson's best.)

ok ok now i'm prepared for any slaying i may receive... :)

I thought it was Benson's best yet, but that may be in part becuase I was really dispointed with NDOD.

I loved Yoshida, his scenes were limited but he as a fasinating character.

I'm with you that NDOD is Benson's best...but in my mind TMWTRT is battling it out with HTTK for second place.

have just had a revelation. there i was, re reading TMWTRT thinking benson has lost track of the adage "show don't tell" when he has done this with yoshida! the main reason the reader sees little of him offers up the opportunity to fill in the gaps! no, have not just realised this, have indeed been nursing this theory for some time, but have just hit upon its effectiveness as a device! d'oh, how slow am i?
