I know the feeling. Reminds me of seeing T2 on the big screen with my grandfather when I was four.

Wow I feel old, I saw T2 when I was 11 :)

Having avoided spoilers, I'll have to see CR before I decide whether to take my 11 year old brother when I see him this Thanksgiving. He's damn mature for his age and extremely smart, so chances are I think he can handle it. I'd be surprised (and disappointed) if it was something he couldn't.

Fascinating! You need to grill this guy further, we need a full review!

Believe me, I was kicking myself over all things I didn't remember to ask when he walked away. "How was the score? What was the response when the film ended? What did you think of the card game? How long was the film?, etc."

I did ask him what he thought of Jeffrey Wright as Felix Leiter and he said that he was great. But he was under the mistaken assumption that Wright had been in a few Bond movies before. Which tells me that Wright as Leiter is a perfect fit.

One thing of note is that he didn't have anything negative to say about CR. He'll always say if he found a movie to be lacking or just flat-out bad, even if it's something I've shown interest in.

When we talked a previously he told me that he didn't think much of the last several Bond movies and CR wasn't even on his radar at that point. Today, he was eager to tell me how much he loved it.

It always bugged me when people on these forums would claim that any attempt to make a more serious film than DAD would inevitably result in something like TLD, an average film at best. Glad to hear CR is proof that isn't the case.

I completely agree. Craig and CR remind me nothing of the Dalton films at all. CR is giving off early-Connery vibes if anything in terms of plot ans style. It sounds to me increasingly like Craig has his own very exciting take on Bond the likes of which we've never seen with the previous actors.

As for dark, violent, intense and in places gruesome, so was Lord Of The Rings and Revenge of the Sith...so Casino Royale has no exclusivity about it other than it's set in the here and now with no dark lords using magic/force, etc.

Honestly, I think CASINO ROYALE is worse. Not only is it set in a real world with real people dying (instead of orcs and stuff), it has a brutal, extended torture sequence, of which neither of those things have anything to compare to. Just to give you an idea of what's in this film:

Spoiler

So I take it that there will be blood (there isn't in GOLDENEYE, which notoriously has Russian soldiers machinegunned in the PTS with a conspicuous lack of blood and bullet hits, A-TEAM style*), and that the only Bond flick to which CASINO ROYALE will be comparable in this department is LICENCE TO KILL.

*Yes, that's the same GOLDENEYE that has a 15 certificate in the UK. :)

No.

The kid's favourite four are Thunderball, OHMSS, Moonraker and Octopussy.

When the kid has seen scores of divers getting impaled and speared right through, a skier shredded under a big snow plow with guts flying everywhere, pilots getting fried in a cockpit and a soldier getting a bullit in the forehead by Bond by the railroad tracks all by the age of 6/7 ...

and then Boromir (sp.)get 3 arrows shot into his kneeling torso...and then Anakin get sliced and his remains getting ignited while screaming in agony...

all by the age of 9, and yet know it's all Hollywood (having taken a trip there, etc) popcorn fluff and still do well in school and in sports, then I know Casino Royale with a 13 is fine enough.

Each to their own.

Have you actually seen the final edit, Harmsway? Or are you going by the written word as typed on a script page?

Cheers

Btw, i know who it is and where it happens...It'll be interesting to see HOW it's visually represented and WHAT it tells us about Mr Bond as an early~ish 00.

Can't wait and neither can the 10 year old.

I work at the Los Angeles Public Library. One of my regular patrons happens to a member of the MPAA. I like talking to him about movies because he has seen them all ahead of time.

He came in this morning purposely to tell me that he has seen CASINO ROYALE. Briefly, he told me that it was fantastic, the best Bond movie since GOLDFINGER. He said Daniel Craig's Bond was, "tough, sinewy, unpredictible, unreadable. He's volatile and no one to mess with."

He also mentioned that the movie is 180 degrees away from lightweight quippy entries in the series. He also singled out the chase sequences and the main titles as very creative and amazing. Sorry, but I didn't have time to ask about the music, the poker game, or anything else.

Edited to add: A couple months ago, he mentioned having to watch TLD and LTK again to re-rate them. He said it was a real chore, as they were "insipid." I mention this because some were wondering if CR was going to be like the Dalton films. My guess from what he told is no, they're going to be something completely new and cool.

I really need to stop salivating. I'm going to ruin my keyboard.

:) :P

Thanks for sharing this!

Can this be moved to the SPOILER section because I was not expecting what Loomis just said.

This is a real bummer...

I don't think I could have done more to mark that stuff I wrote as spoilertastic. You chose to highlight and read, and I even added a massive extra warning of spoilers in bold capitals. Anyway, yes, I was just speculating. And was wrong. However.... (NOTE THAT THERE WILL BE A CR SPOILER HERE, TOO, OR AT LEAST I THINK THERE WILL BE - ANYHOW, READ AT OWN RISK)

This is my first post on this site and I was reading the responses from the IMDB reviewer who suposedly saw the final cut and he said that there was only a brief shot of Bond's bottom, and another scene where Bond and Vesper swim naked (but he mentioned they were both shadowed to hide some of it). If any wants to know any more of his responses to other people's questions I will be happy to post them.

Why isn't this type of thing in the SPOILERS section? And what do these revelations have to do with a PG-13 rating (the topic of this thread)?

Guess a rating of 12A is to be expected in the UK, but I'd be disappointed if that meant the movie had to be severely edited to make the rating. From everything we've heard so far, the movie must be pretty close to a 15.
