Yup. It's definitely a borderline PG-13. I know that it just barely skirted by the MPAA with a few minor touch-ups (though the torture scene remains entirely intact, which is not the case with the UK version).

I think it's the lack of really graphic language i.e F-bombs that alowed it just get by with a PG-13. The MPAA is loosening up on violence and the sex as long as it's not too explicit.

That's a good thing. The movie will make tons more than it would if it were rated R. And I'm kind of thankful the F-bomb language is not in Bond. It just doesn't seem to fit. Dunno...IMO.

Good to hear that it barely got by the MPAA with a PG-13. I bet the ratings board took into consideration that it was a Bond film and it's history etc. etc. You know they are very biased towards certain films (or filmakers).

I heard (LOL Spriggan Ominae) that the torture is probably uncut in the US and a little cut down in the UK, but I think we get more sex I don't think we'll miss much in the torture scene in the UK, ditto with the sex in the US, a couple of seconds or a shot here and there, we won't have seen it uncut though, so it'll all be new.

12A here methinks - a 15 would have been nice but we all know ratings would suffer.

I agree.. Fleming usually trails off obscenities in the novels, and I've been pleased with the lack of strong language in the Bond films (nothing against cursing but it really doesn't seem to fit in the Bond films).. IMHO

True, but an insider whom I trust detailed what was going down with EON and the rating process a few days ago. CASINO ROYALE was submitted to the BBFC, but some minor tweaks had to be made before resubmission (to the torture scene, specifically). The BBFC certification should be made public very soon.

If it was submitted and got a 15, then it would be cut and re-submitted until they got the 12A.

Also, I'm not sure why some people are so keen to see a 15 cert. It may be a bit harsh of me, but I always think it sounds a bit childish (strangely), as if that person just wants to see more explicit violence.

As I've said before, you can get away with a hell of a lot in a 12A, for example Minority Report, the Bourne films, Terminator 3, Batman Begins, War Of The Worlds.

As I mentioned in another thread, the cuts (BBFC, and MPAA) will probably at most, amount to a few seconds here and there. Hardly worth seeking out an uncut DVD.
