Just got this in my inbox from Sony. Did we know all this already? Apart from the first one, obviously.

'In Casino Royale, James Bond (Daniel Craig) drinks a particular martini

How can they have used that hotel site in Thunderball...30 years before means the hotel was started in 1976, not 1965 :)

Anyway, I'll check my Thunderball DVD...I really love to have this kind of things to do ^_^

Well, it doesn't say that it was actually used as a location in THUNDERBALL while it was a hotel construction site - the site could have been used as a location before it was earmarked for that - but I agree that it sounds a bit odd. Anyone know more about that?

I'd presumed from the lack of response that all this had already been revealed, but I hadn't heard that one before, or that there would be an Aston Martin DBS for sale in 2007 in a special finish called Casino Ice, or that Bond

To add a "fun fact" that connects CASINO ROYALE to the Connery golden age, YOU ONLY LIVE TWICE's Tsai Chin ("Darling, I give you only very best duck") has a small role in Craig's debut - as one of the characters at the casino, I think.

'60s fashion icon Veruschka von Lehndorff (of Antonioni's BLOWUP and the cover of Suede's "The Drowners" single fame) also has a small part in CR.

Ooh, good idea. Daniel Craig once starred in a film called HOTEL SPLENDIDE, coincidentally the same name as the hotel in Fleming's original novel. :)

Really. It was a small art-house film made in 2000, co-starring Toni Colette. Here's a review of it:

Tsai Chin plays Madame Wu, who is one of the poker players at Casino Royale and she is seen as a poker playing guest aboard Le Chiffre

I suspect it may be a mistake, juxtabposing 2 Bahamian-shot Bonds. The hotel construction site with a high tower and canal leading to the sea was the base for production for shooting undewater scenes for SWLM. The model Liparus was shot in the canal and filmed from high up.

The set interior of the sinking house in Venice measured 45 ft by 40 ft and was 45 ft high. It was built around the existing indoor tank at Pinewood Studios which was increased to 20 ft so the whole set could sink 16 ft.

A very peculiar idea of a "fun" fact.

"Apocalyptically boring" fact seems more appropriate. Do people really find the girth of erections interesting?

You know how obsessed us Bond fans are with height.

What concerns me is whether the dimensions of the buildings in CASINO ROYALE will chime with the detailed architectural descriptions that are not actually present in Fleming but are nonetheless clearly implied.

Size does matter, Jim.

Stranger things have been the subject of longer threads on this site!

Anyway, I have noted that statistic in my log of the size of Bond sets. Do you know it is smaller that the sets of LTK by 0.07% and Daniel Craig is shorter than Sean by the same amounnt. According to the arcane De Broccoli Code, Casino Royale will perform 0.07% less well than all the Dalton films combined. FACT!

Obviously, they had to build much smaller sets for CASINO ROYALE because Craig is so short. [censored]

Let's not forget. The 1967's film Casino Royale was a serious no holds barred action packed Bond movie. It had many-a James Bond. Included such stars as David Niven and Peter Sellers. The music was written by a pop icon of the times.

This modern version that's set for November 2006 looks like just a bundle of laughs, with a few genitalia whippings thrown in. :)

In the original movie they played Baccarat. And the music was by Bert Baccarat.

Please don't ask me why I come to this conclusion. Obviously my 5 years as a member of CBn has damaged my sex drive. (or that dingily dang thing that controls we men's minds)

Bollocks. :P

Cheers,

Ian

That's why those sort of trunks are called "budgie smugglers" here in Oz.
