Wait, Thunder, I thought you didn't like Broz? Personally, I'm like you JWM. I was born in 82, am 24, and technically, Sean Connery was the first Bond I ever saw in Goldfinger (long story), however, Brosnan was and is James Bond 007, in my mind. I'm inclined to agree with the sentiment that the subpar movies weren't his fault. I mean, maybe its just me but readin Gardners books, particularly No Deals Mr. Bond, in my minds eye, I see Pierce doing the movie adaptation. I mean come on, he's in Ireland, guys. Dude?
All just my opinions

Pierce Brosnan did have a good reputation at one point I believe, but the manner in which he left the franchise in what was arguably his weakest movie did slightly sour that reputation. The fact that he is most likely to be held up by the anti-Craig crew as a comparison against Daniel Craig could work in his favour; however those who are keen to support Craig often have been forced to highlight Brosnan's weaknesses as a comparative measure. I think that once Craig has been accepted slightly more as Bond, then Brosnan's better qualities will be allowed some praise once more.

I agree with this sentiment. And it is natural, I suppose, to praise/bash the most recent actor when his successor arrives on the scene. It probably was the case with the previous Bonds and had the Internet been present then, those feelings probably would have been even more pronounced at their departures. However, in Pierce Brosnan's case, I think the negative feelings about him have been a little too negative at times on this forum and have tended to overlook the things he brought to the role. Granted, I wasn't a forum member during his tenure, but I never heard a lot of negativity during his reign. Most everyone seemed to love him in the role. But as soon as his term was over, all the bashers seemed to come out of the woodwork. Granted, his last two films probably didn't help his case, but I don't believe for a second that he was the problem with those films. Also, all the anti-Daniel Craig sentiments expressed in the weeks/months after his casting probably didn't help Brosnan's case either in a comparison/contrast way.

[mra]Pierce is great. He was a great James Bond. Loved all of his Bond films and I wish he got to do a fifth.
However, I would rather that fifth had not been Casino Royale. I

Brosnan was one of the best actors to play Bon imo. An actor can be as good or as bad as they can, but ultimately the blame for his movie(s) not being good would fall on the writers. An actor can't be the best if he is given crappy material to act with.
