Can anyone confirm, post links etc as to what the rooftop scene was going to entail or how much was exactly filmed? I need the information for a forthcoming review i will be writing on the film for the CBN forums.

Thanks in advance!!!

I've always wondered about this scene because it sounds really good. I don't think it was actually filmed properly though or it would have appeared as an extra by now on either the SE or the UE. Lazenby was at least filmed climbing over a wall though, or doing something on a roof, because I've seen a picture of it. I imagine the idea was shelved so not to make the film too long etc.

Yeah, I read somewhere he dislocated his shoulder jumping over a wall. Maybe that was why it was shelved?

I think I read somewhere that the bloke he was meant to be chasing got away and reported to Blofeld that Bond would be impersonating Hilary. It was decided that it would be better if Blofeld didn't know about Bond...even though they'd met in the previous film... Would be cool to see though

Maybe it will be included in the upcoming box set.

I've often wondered about this sequence because I've been told by several people involved with the production that it was never actually filmed (although photos were obviously taken), but I've also been told by others involved with the production that it was filmed. No one seems to have an definitive answer as to whether or not it was actually shot or not.

Funny this topic, I recently read about this in Steven Jay Rubin's "James Bond encyclopedia," it goes something like this:

Phidian, the chap who's handing Sir Hilary Bray something at the start of the scene turns out to be Blofeld's inside man. Realizing this, Bond pursues the man over rooftops and into a train station, where the man is then crushed by the train. In order to make it appear to be an accident, Bond retrieves several corpses from a cemetary and sticks them on a train with Phidian. They stage an accident and when Blofeld reads about it in the news he buys the story.

I paraphrased that a bit, but that's how the scene was supposed to go. Would have added a good five-ten minutes to the movie though.

scripted, storyboarded, and rehearsed in Feb 69 (when the photos were taken), but not filmed for the final cut per se.

No footage exists in any UA/MGM/Sony vault unfortunately.

Dude, buy the book! The Essential James Bond. It's been printed 3 different times, and you can get it for like 2 pounds on eBay.

Thank God that idea was scrapped.

I'm a bit off topic with this, but I've always wondered about other possibly missing footage from OHMSS. It strikes me that there's rather an abrupt cut between Irma Bunt telling Bond that he'll have to be checked out by Piz Gloria's doctor and his being shown to his room. Might there have been a short scene there that ended on the cutting room floor?

The internet abbreviation "LOL" is overused, but this one truly deserved it!
