I've just received my copy of "The Man with the Red Tattoo". I've not read it yet as I always save the latest Bond book for my summer vacation.

I have noticed, however, that it has a very strange cover. The usual references to James Bond and especially 007 have gone! It does have "The new Bond adventure" on it but not the traditional James Bond with 007 written across it.

Okay, this isn't really important to the fans but it isn't instantly recognisable as a Bond book if it was sitting in your local bookstore.

Never dream of Dying also broke tradition and had a different style cover but at least it had a huge 007 logo down the spine.

At the end of the day it's whats inside that counts and I'm sure it will be amazing, I just wish they had kept the same style of cover.

I was actually quite surprised by the front cover. It doesn't mention 007 or 'James Bond', which to me seems the biggest selling lines possible!

I really miss the British covers for the first four books, they were fantastic, then these last two, they don't match at all...too bad since all Fleming's, Gardner's, Amis's and the first four Bensons can all be found in the same style....kind of breaks up the feeling of having this one cool set of all the books....I like the uniformity...

I agree with you, rafterman. It's one of the reasons I like the U.S. editions -- they've maintained a consistent style and look great on the shelf (this is true of the U.S. paperbacks as well).

I don't mind if it breaks the regular style of covers. I even think it looks pretty tacky on some of the covers with a huge JAMES BOND on it just so that someone realize it's a James Bond book. I kinda like the idea of each book having it's own and completely different cover design that goes along with the feel of the story.
