Almost every Bond film has featured the famous line where Bond says his name as, "Bond, James Bond." Sometimes the deliveries have been boring and flat, other times classic and memorable. Which "Bond, James Bond" moments were the best and worst deliveries of that line.

I'll start.

#1 - In the Casino at the start of Dr. No (very cool and most memorable)

#2 - The unfinished "Bond, James..." when Bond is speaking to Tilly Masterson in GF (why, because it's pretty funny IMO)

Who said it best overall?
#1 - Connery
#2 - Dalton
#3 - Moore
#4 - Lazenby
#5 - Brosnan (Pierce is one of my favorite Bond's, but he never sounded like it was HIS name when he said it. It always came across like Pierce Brosnan saying a line).

What are your thoughts?

Regards

I always liked the way Roger delivered the line, especially in Octopussy. Something about the way he said it made the name "pop"..

Goldfinger, hands down. "Bond, James Bond" as he looks out over the window view in Miami...

Good one crheath. That's one reason Connery is at the top of my list on this one. Oh, by the way, I want to say I did like (somewhat) Pierce's delivery of "Bond, James Bond" to Carver when they first meet.

Regards.

Most of the time, it's "Bond.......James Bond", as made definitive (and done second best) in Dr. No.

But for Timothy Dalton in The Living Daylights, it was actually "Bond, James Bond", and delivered in such an "I'm busy using your phone here, so [censored] off" way that it palpably dripped with 007 coolness, making it the single best utterance to date.

Hands down the best is in Dr. No followed closley by GF. Connery was just too cool saying that line. Moore also said it with panache, but everyone else who said it, sounded forced. I can't wait to hear Craig say it.

Pierce Brosnan said it the best in the casino in Goldeneye to Xenia.

I'll agree with this one. The Dr No casino scene, although iconic, didn't have the natural confidence of the Miami moment.

Probably Connery in Dr. No or Goldfinger.

I have to agree. Those are probably the two best deliveries of the line in the series, although I've always been fond of Dalton's throw-away delivery of it in TLD.

For me it would have to be Connery delivering thline in DR. NO or GOLDFINGER. Though other comments in the thread make me want to check Dalton in THE LIVING DAYLIGHTS again. Of course, I am looking forward to hearing Craig too.

Sean Connery in Dr. No has the best Bond...James Bond delivery, hands down.

My rankings of how they said it:

1. Sean Connery
2. Roger Moore
3. George Lazenby
4. Pierce Brosnan
5. Timothy Dalton (sorry, but I just don't like his delivery in TLD and it's too abruptly cut off in LTK)

Moore's first ever in LALD was pretty good. That whole scene is great. Bond's a captive yet hes so unfazed and in control. That scene validated Moore as Bond for me. The delivery and his mannerisms during the "My name's Bond. James Bond". were perfect.

I didn't like the Goldeneye "Bond, James Bond" but the Dr. No one is a classic :)

I agree....and Mr. Big's response "Names is for tombstones" was classic.

Connery in Goldfinger
Moore in LALD and also liked the way he said it in FYEO to Ferrara, he didn't say the whole phrase, just: "Bond. James."

I think because he had already given the line to Melina in the car chase. :P :) :P

i like the pierce's version, but the best to me by far is roger. I mean roger was bond and he just said like it was his real name. In octopussy at the casino when he sits down as he says it to me is just classic bond. And moonraker when he first meets ms. Goodhead. The first time pierce said it in goldeneye was good, but to me roger had the best by far.

My favorite will always be Dalton's cast-off delivery in The Living Daylights' opening sequence - So cool, yet so different from the others that came before. Connery's delivery early on in Goldfinger was priceless too.

I never liked Brosnan's delivery though - He always seemed like he was pausing between words for someone to applaud.

Agreed. I've always thought that Dalton's delivery was fantastic, even though it wasn't as iconic as Connery's deliveries of it in Dr. No and Goldfinger. Dalton's delivery just shows that there is room to do things differently within the tried and true Bond formula.

The best "Bond ... James Bond" Delivery ? No doubt about that: Sean Connery in Dr No. Nobody can do it better (it's an all time high).

I also have to vote for Connery in Dr. No. Considering the context of the scene, it's the absolute best. Goldfinger gets there, it's the moment where Bond captures the world.

Speaking of the world, Broz gets pounded pretty hard for his delivery, and I agree with the masses about it sometimes being delivered too heavily, but I really do like his delivery to Elektra in TWINE. His voice is settled low, he's talking to a lady, and he's not trying to be overly bravado in this moment. It just seems his most casual and natural, IMO.

Hoping Craig's will be the best since Dr. No.

In the classic sense - big moment, hushed antipation-type has to be Connery in DN.

However, by far the most natural, human (as in the way a real person, not movie character after effect, would say it) HAS to be Lazenby's second, when he makes the phone call to Draco.

And its very cool as well.

Given the context of Daniel's delivery, it just might be the best one since Dr. No-- or even better.

I agree with the previous post - Goldfinger is without a doubt the most classic - but that also had the music cue to really set it off.

Brosnan's version in Tomorrow Never Dies was his best - less forced and more legit.

But as much as this might be unpopular, Roger Moore did his best Fleming-esqe version in THE MAN WITH THE GOLDEN GUN when he meets Lazaar. Very serious / don't mess with me...

When I watch each actor say those iconic words, the real key is to watch their eyes when they say it. Most of the time it is just a line in the script, but for the good ones like Goldfinger or TMWTGG, the eyes add a whole additional presence to the scene.

Connery in Dr.No
Connery in Goldfinger
Dalton in The Living Daylights
Brosnan in Goldeneye (hey, I liked the way he said it the first time!)
