Hey, haven't posted in a long time, but I came across this and it made me worry.

http://news.bbc.co.uk

The article says that the Lord's Resistance Army and Uganda have signed a truce, and the LRA have called a ceasefire, but the ceasefire has not yet been agreed to.

And as we know, Le Chiffre banks a crap load of money for Steven Obanno, leader of the LRA, in Casino Royale. If this truce goes into full effect before CR is released, do you think it will hurt the film much. Or they can always change the movie around in editing.

Your thoughts?

I think...it's just a film.

Plus clearly they have called a truce because James Bond damaged their organisation :)

Exactly. :P

You see Casino Royale is a period piece just like so many wanted. It’s just that the period was early 2006.

Clearly the whole script will have to be re-written and the whole movie reshot.

Maybe the 10% of the audience who have a clue who the LRA really are will have questions, but let's face it, there's a reason why 'The Sun' is Britain's best-selling "newspaper", and why, allegedly, 90% of Americans don't have passports. In short, I'm being superior and bitchy and saying that most of the audience will be too thick and uninformed to worry about it.

Well the script isn't so much involved with the LRA and it's conflict with Uganda. It's about Le Chiffre losing their money. I'm sure the LRA will exist in one form or another even after the truce.

The LRA never were a very big part of the script (in fact they were a very small part) so, I doubt it will make a difference

Hey Gabe! Was wondering where you went. Good to see you here again. :P

As for this I doubt it will affect the film. It kinda adds a what if element. A date that stood out in the script is "July 14" I believe, which means the evnts of the story could have taken place this summer. Maybe there is some James Bondish type behind the scene stuff that lead to this latest development. :)

No it doesn't really effect Casino Royale.

I'm sure the LRA still needs somebody to hold onto its money. (Or in Le Chiffre's case, lose it)

Another point that I've just noticed from a quick skim of the script - the LRA is never directly named in any dialogue in the movie. For all intents and purposes, it could be any rebel group based in Uganda (or I suppose they could always change their location)

Precisely, it makes no difference to the movie. I always thought it strange why the script mentioned the LRA by name; how the hell did these loopy guys get on EON's radar screen? No matter, since you say they aren't mentioned in the dialogue. Anyway, the idea of Le Chiffre losing money belonging to a dangerous & crazy African rebel group sounds very cool and should make the storyline very edgy.

They need to change the desription of that to:

A guy walks the streets of America and asks random people some pretty easy questions and then edits the footage to try to make all Americans look stupid. A couple of these answers actually had me laughing out loud. If anyone knows what show this clip aired let us know, we thought it was hilarious.

But anyway, can we get back on topic.

90% seems low. You have to remember a US Driver's License will get you in Canada, Mexico, and most of the tourist countries in the Caribbean, so there's really no need for one unless you're going to be travelling across an ocean (which many people can't afford to do).
