Esquire described Daniel Craig as self-deprecating. That's good.

Goldeneye was a particularly good Bond film and the rest tailed off slowly into the abiss that was DAD, though not his fault he didn't help with his bored, wooden performances.

One of the problems I have with DAD is that Brosnan doesn't seem bored or wooden. In the scene where he meets Jinx, for example, he seems to play along with the dialogue (feast like there's no tomorrow blah blah blah) as if he actually thinks it's cool and sexy, as opposed to cringeworthy bilge water. The whole film seems entirely suited to the element of naff in him.

you're right here. there is no irony in DAD. it is a Bond film within a film, in a Bond world, where those lines are actually sexy.

Tarrantino writes in a similar way, but obviously better...the characters talk like they are in a movie whereas people don't actually talk like that.......I forgot the name of the school of thought that is used to describe 'film world' dialogue.....

When i saw that scene i thought, why should i care for someone who uses these lines and thinks they are sexy, and why should i care for HER when she falls for it, they came across as two people lost in a bad movie who are in love with themselves....which of course they were.

the writers of DAD are interviewed on the 'making of' and they come across as completely asmazed their script got the approval.....like two school kids who cheated and didnt get caught.

It is truly awful....

Daniel Craig doesn't have much choice to be other than genuinely self-deprecating, given the pile of slag that has been heaped upon him. Can't have much ego left, poor bloke.

Craig does seem like a nice bloke... one thing I've really noticed is how nervous he is in filmed interviews, though he tries to hide it. I'm slightly nervous for him when he has to do the talk show circuit.

I read the article and thought it was a good piece. It seemed he was happy to not be asked about all the BS questions he was asked at his conference, when some idiot kept asking about Sienna Miller and Kate Moss.

Had to laugh when he said his ultimate Bond girl was Dame Judi. I cracked up at that! :)

Based on print and TV interviews, he does come across as a fairly reserved, private guy for the most part and would rather talk about the film he's working on than himself. He also seems to have a pretty droll, dry sense of humour which may register as nervousness, edginess. After some of the crud thrown at him, however, it probably comes in very handy!

Having said that, the impression I also get is if he's comfortable with the interviewer and they have something to ask beyond trotting out the same tired questions about his personal life (the Sienna/Kate line springs to mind!), he'll happily yak away. The best interview to date I've read was in UK Vogue in 2004, around the time of Layer Cake coming out, which sounded like it was fun for both him and the interviewer.

Maybe I'm taking the videos on the CR website at face value, but over time I do see him becoming more relaxed.
