I recently watched through the two Bourne movies and was struck by the fact I was watching one of the coolest spy/assassin characters (IMHO) in cinema history. True, he doesn't have the long history of Bond and he doesn't wear the latest fashion and little is said about his taste in fine wine, etc., but Bourne is dangerous and deadly.

In a recent "Who Would Win?" game question, I asked, "Bourne vs. Bond". The reply was "Bond", but honestly, my thought was "no way". I asked about a dozen people, and they all said Bourne would so totally kill Bond it would be no contest.

Now, you may or may not agree with my assessment, but has Bourne (in any way) had a roll in/influence over the new direction of Bond? Not that I want Bond to become Bourne (not at all), but did the deadliness, seriousness, and efficiency of Bourne not make Bond look a bit, well, old fashioned?

So, did Bourne influence the new Bond and the choice of Craig? Yes, No? Why? or Why Not? Are there qualities of Bourne that you would like to see in Bond? Why/Why Not?

Any thoughts? I personally think Bond needs to be more dangerous, more efficient, while maintaining his suave persona.

Regards

Daddy, this has been raised quite a bit - have you not seen the threads?

Yes, I expect the success of the Bourne films probably did have some influence on the direction of CASINO ROYALE. But let's not forget that Bourne is massively influenced by Bond: the amnesiac agent from Fleming's YOU ONLY LIVE TWICE, a lot else from the early Connery films, which really created this sort of thriller.

This doesn't merit a new thread but rejigger one of the many old ones by all means.
