It all depends on the level of floppness. If the movie makes somewhere between $50 and $100 million, that will be a "disappointment", but I expect they'll still give another a go. But if the movie truly "flops" -- and I think that would mean not crossing the $30 million line (Tomb Raider II numbers) -- there will be no more James Bond movies in the foreseeable future. It would be cheaper to pay out Daniel's contract than make another film. It will be the end.what if cr flops?

Zencat i cant believe it when u say it just takes one big flop to close the James Bond franchise.Common u dont expect me to believe this.It is a massive
franchise. It will take at least around3 big flops IMO to close the series

If CR flops, history will repeat itself. Brosnan will come back for another to establish box office success and then Rog will more than likely do 7 more.
I think, I can wait for that.

I don't believe that CR is going to flop.
But even if it does, they will probably think first of replacing Daniel Craig before shutting down the whole show.

More likely, I think they'll give him another go, but make Bond 22 a far more familiar and formulaic affair. If that also flops, they'll probably be looking for outs, maybe even having begun exploring their options during filming.James Bond is the world's second most successful movie franchise, after Star Wars.
I don't believe that CR is going to flop.
But even if it does, they will probably think first of replacing Daniel Craig before shutting down the whole show.
It'd take a massive bomb on the scale of, say, Gigli to warrant letting Craig go after just one. It'd take two or three with different Bonds to warrant shutting down the entire series. And even then, it'd be resurrected in ten or fifteen years.
But we don't have to worry about that, because if other mediocre "superhero" franchise entries can perform as well as they have, all it takes is a ho-hum effort to make Casino Royale an average to slightly below average performer by Bond standards. And that's a success.

Maybe 20 years ago...but with movies costing $200 million to make and almost as much to market, one flop is all it takes. Three flops at that level can close a studio.

Exactly. A really serious flop will indeed end the franchise.Maybe 20 years ago...but with movies costing $200 million to make and almost as much to market, one flop is all it takes. Three flops at that level can close a studio.
