OTOH, those who've read the script (64% of Bond fans, apparently ) will doubtless be able to clear all this up pretty sharpish.

I forgot about that bodyguard bit, probably because she doesnt do anything, at least nothing memorable (though it has been a while since I read the script).

SCRIPT! what script?
There were rumors they were making it up as they go along, but the presence of a script sqwelches such rumors
Although, honestly, a 100% ad-libbed Bond film would be interesting to see...

No, the train scene is when Vesper first meets Bond.Like in Casino 1954... poor Vesper. The torture is above a train ?
If you read a copy of the original Fleming novel of CASINO ROYALE, the scene in the movie is a fairly accurate representation of it.

I believe Valenka is also Le Chiffre's bodguard, in which case it's a good bet that she'll do someone some damage at some point.

Huh? Will she be the 'May Day' of Casino Royale then??

Wouldn't go as far as to compare her to May Day! But yes, it's a similar idea - Valenka is indeed one of Le Chiffre's bodyguards and his girlfriend.

Valenka, while not contributing a whole lot, does get a great moment:
Spoiler
Damn! I didn't know they were adapting the book this faithfully. I knew about Bond's scene, but not Vesper's.
This is getting more interesting everyday.
