From BBC News:-

The actress who will play James Bond's lover in Casino Royale has predicted Daniel Craig will win over anybody who doubts he can make a good 007.

Caterina Murino said Craig was "a great actor" and would provide fans with "something else we never saw before".

She also promised fans: "You never saw a James Bond like this."

The Italian revealed the forthcoming film, due for release in the UK on 17 November, would be more violent than any of its predecessors.

"Casino Royale is the first book Ian Fleming wrote and it means we see how James Bond became James Bond," said Murino.

"Daniel is giving to this James Bond something else we never saw before.

Daniel Craig is the sixth person to play James Bond in 21 films
"When he's going to kill someone, he looks like a real killer. When he kisses me, when he makes love, he's so sexy."

Craig, 38, is the sixth actor to play Bond after Sean Connery, George Lazenby, Roger Moore, Timothy Dalton and Pierce Brosnan.

Craig 'upset'

He has promised to portray a more human and fallible version of the secret agent, but some fans have criticised the choice of Craig to replace Brosnan.

Murino admitted Craig had been upset by criticism of his selection, but insisted that filming went well and Bond fans would be happy with the result.

"This James Bond doesn't look like a little cartoon like before, like the last one or so charming and playful like the first James Bond," she added. "This is new."

Sir Richard Branson has cameo roles in Casino Royale and Superman Returns
Casino Royale, directed by Martin Campbell, will also feature Sir Richard Branson and his son Sam.

The Virgin Atlantic airline owner will play himself in a scene set in Miami Airport.

The entrepreneur has previously had cameos in the TV series Friends and the films Around the World in 80 Days and Superman Returns.

He said he was "just a little excited to be playing a cameo in the film".

While I appreciate that Craig is talented, and certainly a "brave" choice for Bond.... and while I'm sure that Murino is sincere in what she says....

....WHY DO THEY ALWAYS SAY THIS?

She also promised fans: "You never saw a James Bond like this."

AND THIS? I mean, this could be from an interview relating to any of the films from LIVING DAYLIGHTS onwards.

The Italian revealed the forthcoming film, due for release in the UK on 17 November, would be more violent than any of its predecessors.

15 certificate, no question (well, almost).

"Casino Royale is the first book Ian Fleming wrote and it means we see how James Bond became James Bond," said Murino.

Gah! Stop getting Bond wrong!

Hmmm....

All of which makes me yearn the more for comments along the lines of "maybe I've ruined James Bond for everyone." (Haggis)

Is it just me or does that article get very repetitive at the end?...

I'm waiting for "We're making a fun, escapist action movie that people will be entertained by".

Why do they have to dress it up? It's not THE SEVENTH SEAL.

It's not actually wrong, is it?

Anyhoo- this film is a bit of departure so I think her comments kind of make sense. We haven't seen a Bond quite like his before: she's more justified in saying that than someone would have been talking about DAD like that.

Depends on how you look at it. It's not a BOND BEGINS novel, with which Fleming shows our hero becoming a Double-O and other "origin story" stuff that's in the film.

You could argue that there's plenty of "character-forming" material for Bond in the novel: the torture scene, his experience with Vesper, etc. - but then again you could argue that, since there's next no meaningful continuity in the Fleming books, his "Casino Royale" doesn't really have much significance as an Episode I. I'm not sure that it influences Bond in his subsequent adventures in any way.

Well there's plenty of stuff Bond thinks back on during the course of the novels, and besides, Caterina's not actually saying the novel tells us how Bond became Bond per se, she's just saying this film is an opportunity to do it as the novel was the first in the run. Not amazing logic, but y'know: foreign.

Indeed, but as with the boy who cried wolf and the law of diminishing returns/interest, this is now far from noteworthy.

Perhaps if it had been less used in the past, the impact would be greater. As it is, this now just smacks of the bi/tri annual dusting off of stock phrases.

...so why all the focus on Murino suddenly? Is she just more willing to gab with the press than Green? Or is Green's filming wrapped already? What'd I miss?

It's just that I've gotten the impression that Murino's character is relatively minor (compared to Vesper, certainly) yet she's being touted as the "love interest," while Green isn't mentioned at all.

Odd.

And yes, the article's extremely repetetive and tells us nothing. But you all knew that already.

I really hope he's as fantastic as a lot of the hype is leading us to believe (as well as a lot of the insider talk - I know people who have seen footage, and the word is that Craig will not fail to impress). A really good Bond covers a multitude of other cinematic sins.

It's not that I don't have faith in the guy - I think he's delivered some great performances and is a really great subtle actor. But it doesn't directly follow that his Bond will be utterly mind-blowing, though. We'll all see come November 17th how the new 007 really measures up, and from what I've seen thus far, he'll be great.

Upon first glance he's definately not the atypical Bond: Tall, dark and Handsome. What he is though is brutal, I think we'll have a Bond much similar to Connery, and Dalton. Someone who we arent quite sure how he'll handle a situation, someone who could believably enter a room and beat up a few armed men.

I have faith in Craig, but if he fails to impress me, I won't be afraid to say so.
