So beyond these limited edition hardbacks, they haven't released a hardback in the UK for either YB novels yet?

Just find that odd, I guess.

Correct.

I think it's smart, seeing as these are kids books after all. Do a massive first printing as affordable trade paperbacks (something people can actually buy and read), then release a limited number of nice signed hardcovers for the collectors and the hardcore fans.

The U.S. is doing it the old way. Hardcovers first, paperback a year later, and are clearly not enjoying the same success as in the UK. Maybe this has something to do with it.

I don't think we know how they're doing in the States. I haven't really seen any information on it. The best I've seen is that they were up to 500,000 worldwide by Nov 2005 for SilverFin (no mention of the U.S.). Blood Fever is supposedly doing better, but who can say. Book publishers rarely if ever release sales data.

True. We really don't know how the YB books are doing in the U.S. My sense is that they aren't performing as well as the books in the UK, but that's based on nothing but my psychic abilities. :)

I have been in many bookstores in several states over the past year and I haven't seen a hardback of Silverfin for many months. Even the paperbacks are almost gone. I still see hardbacks of BloodFever but they seem to be selling pretty well.

This in contrast to a year ago when there seemed to be a handful of Silverfin hardbacks in every book store I browsed. So I'd say things are picking up.

I don't have the Silverfin collector's edition, and I probably won't get the BloodFever edition either. They look great, but the US hardbacks look quite nice on my shelf, and it's real hard for me to justify the rather exorbitant expense of the specials. I need to save my book money for all the other authors I collect. Note to self: purchase Powerball lottery ticket...

My hope is they will do "adult editions" of the Young Bond books like they do with Harry Potter. Nice hardcovers with more "adult" cover art, etc.

Or.. bookstores just aren't carrying it anymore or are carrying less, which is worse. :)

If anyone in England has time to drop by a Waterstones, let us know if the book is out already.

EDIT: The eBay seller tells me she purchased the book from an Ottakars bookstore on Friday. So...

Another one?

I think it's safe to assume the book is out now (and maybe has been for a while). Wonder why no official announcement? Maybe with only 999 copies, they don't need to advertise.

I guess I'll have to get one of these, since I have the one for Silverfin...

This is getting to be a very expensive year indeed...
