Coincidence? Or just horrible in-company communication?

It's ok.. I'll be getting the Nintendo Wii anyway. Looks to be more fun. Maybe a 360 in the future.

Yeah, I'm going to pass up the PS3 as well. Sony really dropped the ball this time out.
Same here. Do they honestly expect people to pay $499 for the low-end model of this thing? And then there's the fact that it's based around Blue-Ray technology, which I don't think is going to fare well when stacked up against the regular HD-DVD technology.

I look at sony, and all i see is TRUE innovation and spectacular shows of the strength of this console. the next generation has NOT started yet and it wont until sony gets ehre...DEFENITELY.....i might be sounding like a bit of a fanboy...haha ...but really, Sony impresses me all the time.
Blu-Ray has more influence than HD DVD already...with 9/10 major Hollywood publishing companies adopting it.

You like it, that's cool, but I have no clue whatsoever what you're referring to here where you claim Sony is doing "true innovation" with this one. All I see here is a beefed up PlayStation/PlayStation 2 with limited tilt functions thrown in at the last minute to try and steal from Nintendo's thunder. Beyond that, Microsoft actually released a gamepad years ago that did this for the PC; Nintendo took it a step further (much much more functionality) and is bringing it to mainstream gaming. That's innovation. Wii is innovation. Nintendo DS is innovation. There's nothing innovative about PlayStation 3. Beefed up graphics and HD is not innovation and it was all done before the PlayStation 3 anyway.

"Oh CRAP! Nintendo has a great controller and Xbox Live has better online services than we've ever even TRIED to have...what're we gonna do?"
"How about we just up and take them, sir?"
"PERFECT!"
Oh, and before I forget...
With the limited number of consoles that will be available in the UK at launch, I doubt it will have a significant impact on cinema attendance. High ticket price and the chavs sitting behind you who talk loudly during the movie...now that's what's going to impact on cinema attendance.
I've tried to find out before, to no avail...

Hear, hear! That's EXACTLY how I feel about the PS3.

To be fair though, Sony is the leader of the pack and this generation they're going to be squeezed more than ever. Last gen they didn't have anything to worry about. They steamrolled right over Dreamcast (which was on the outs - I love my Dreamcast too) and as much as I love my GameCube and Xbox, they weren't much of a match considering the humongous lead PS2 already had at the time of their release.
This gen is different. Sony has to defend their marketshare on both fronts from day 1 and they're not really doing that by forging their own path and focusing on any particular feature; they're doing it by trying to include similar functionality that everyone else has so that no one really has a feature that they don't, if only cosemetically, have. It comes off rather weak. It'll sell, and probably do well, but in the end they're going to lose a lot of marketshare this gen. IMHO anyway.

-Innovative Controller designs
-Attractive price at launch
-Launch titles (if you bought a N64 at launch you'll get this joke

-The ability to download old Nintendo games (this is freaking awesome!)
-Backward compatibility with the Gamecube (the Wii will also have four built in controller slots for Cube controllers).

I really think Sony's time is up if they're serious about charging $600 for their one system when gamers can buy the two competing systems for the same price (assuming Wii launches at a $200 price tag). Looks like the Ten Year theory is about to kick in:
Atari dominated from the 70s to 80s
Nintendo dominated from the 80s to 90s
Sony dominated from the 90s to 00s
next up...Microsoft?

Just about right. Only for consoles though. Nintendo still dominates the handheld market. I'm not sure who's up next. I'm thinking this gen may be a good split (i.e., no clear winner). Hard to say.

That and the fact that they've taken some of the main sales points for the Wii (IE: the interactive controller thing) they have doomed the Wii to an extent.

WHAT IS A CHAV?!
Good question! I was going to answer that... but decided this was better (from the Wikipedia):
(From the Wikipedia) Chav, or Charv or Charva is a slang term which has been in wide use throughout the United Kingdom since 2004. It refers to a subcultural stereotype of a person with fashions such as flashy "bling" jewellery and counterfeit designer clothing, an uneducated, uncultured, and impoverished background, a tendency to congregate around places such as fast-food outlets, bus stops, or other shopping areas, and a culture of antisocial behaviour. Chavs often listen to rap and hip hop music. Response to the term has ranged from amusement to criticism that it is a new manifestation of classism.
To me the term Chav is also used for people who have more money than their taste can handle (i.e. most of the above, but with money). For americans the closest equivalent to the definition above would be white trash (except chavs cross racial boundaries).
Re the PS3 - I bought a PS2 last year and will happily continue using that for the next few years. Frankly I'd rather spend my money on a PC than a console. More than
