Samantha Bond shares the distinction of never having any scenes with Bond in a Bond film (I dont consider the DAD scenes to count as that really isnt Bond). Of course Caroline Bliss' Moneypenny never encounters Bond at all in LTK.

Jimmy, did you see GE, TND and TWINE? Or are you saying PB wasn't Bond?

I think Bliss' Moneypenny was somewhat refreshing after an aging Lois Maxwell. I would have liked to see more than twice, but Samantha Bond was a superior Moneypenny.

I reread my post, I dont think I made it clear what I was saying. I was merely saying that Samantha Bond's Moneypenny never actually interacted with Bond in DAD, while she did interact with VR Bond that isnt the same as real Bond.

I think it had more to do with the tone of the Bond films at that point than anything else. The Brosnan era was full of "Cheap laughs" and stuff of that nature. I didn't mind it because it fit the tone of DAD, which in itself was celebrating the forty year history of the franchise.

I mean look at it this way, many of us Bond fans (many, not all) look at <!-- CBN - FILM TAG BEGIN mr --><a target='_blank' href='http://www.commanderbond.net/index.cgi?action=Category&CID=104'><b class='film'>Moonraker</b></a><!-- CBN - FILM TAG END --> Looking back we can enjoy Moonraker as a detour into this type of territory, I wonder if in ten years we'll look back on DAD as fondly?

Many of us look back and STILL cringe at MR just as much as we did when it came out. I can't see how DAD we improve with age. Just the opposite. Some Bond films that were just passable at the time are now downright unwatchable.

Regarding the VR scene, DAD was cursed with too many "uncredible" things (like the invisible car, DNA resequencing, etc.) Bond films have always featured things that are not possible, but they have to be "credible" for the audience to suspend belief. Both DAD and MR were pagued with these problems. Both left a sour taste in this 007 enthusiats mouth. Thank God Babs and Mikey relized this and are going back to Bonds literary roots.

See that's the difference between you and I. I loathed TND upon seeing it because it was "just an action film." Now I enjoy it becaue of what it is, and not what I wanted it to be. Same with DAD, though to be honest I enjoyed that when I saw it in theaters and I still enjoy it now.

Caroline Bliss was very good as Moneypenny in "The Living Daylights", except for perhaps her choice in music, 'Barry Manilow records', I shudder at the thought! How did that get by her SS vetting? She was no Lois Maxwell, but I enjoyed with brief visit to the Bond world.

Take out the Manilow line in TLD, and she is far better than Samantha Bond. I can only think that the Manilow reference was put in the script because of its musical aspects. After all, 007 was chasing a mysterious woman who played a cello - an instrument which I personally played as a child. The film brings back memories of all the classical music which I played at that time.

The Bliss/Dalton dynamic wasn't perfect, but it was still preferable to the Brosnan/S.Bond one.

I don't think Bliss would have been fared any better in 5 movies than she did 2, apart from the fact she would obviously have been better remembered.

Bliss' portrayal of MM was awful - i never liked her and she always used to eat her glasses and there to big reminding me of Deidrie of Corrie

It's interesting that IMDb indicates that she hasn't done anything since 1996. Except for the two Bonds she hasn't done all that much at all.

Unfortunately, the IMDb does not not list Caroline's stage credits.
