When Did Each Actor Look Most "Bondian"?

For example, age/looks wise (in my minds eye and opinion):
1. Connery looked best as Bond in Goldfinger - slightly out of the youthfulness of FRWL and before he started to show a little age in TB (range wise: looked best for the role from FRWL through TB).
2. Lazenby - while I don't have a movie I could mention - it seems like he looked most Bond-like about 10 years after OHMSS - though he was fine in OHMSS.
3. Moore - toward the end of his run as The Saint (although he looked the part from LALD through TSWLM IMO).
5. Dalton - in TLD (and slightly before - but still good for the part YEARS later).
6. Brosnan looked best for the part in TND (although GE is my favorite Brosnan movie) - 2nd TWINE.
7. Craig? I like him at the age he is now - but we'll know more later on that.

On YOLT we saw him a little older, and I didn't like it at all in DAF, (I prefer him in NSNA, 12 years later)
Moore was too old already in LALD, Maybe in the part of the Saint, was in the right age, but in LALD was pretty good and remain the same till TSWLM
Dalton was nice in TLD, but in LTK, I didn't like him so much, probaly his haircut was the main reason
Brosnan, took the part too late, altought he was right enough in GE and better in TND (I didn't like the movie), probably he looked better in Death Train, or in Mr. Johnson.(About Three years before GE)
Can't judge Craig, I saw him only in Road to perdition, and he seemed to me older than his real age, and in the jacket, but I didn't like his dyed hair, too black for his skin tone, and Layer Cake, when sometimes he looked very bondian.

I was thinking more eras or times when the Bond actors looked their best for the part rather than specific moments in the films...but that would be an interesting discussion.

something that Brosnan replays in DAD in the Cuban hospital
The most bondian scene, is when we know him.... in Dr. NO, "my name is bond... james Bond"

In your minds eye, at what age and film did each actor "look" most Bond-like? In other words, when did they look best for the part? NOTE: This may or may NOT be your favorite Bond film for that actor - it may even be a non-Bond film or TV show. It may even be a range of films - an era.
For example, age/looks wise (in my minds eye and opinion):
1. Connery looked best as Bond in Goldfinger - slightly out of the youthfulness of FRWL and before he started to show a little age in TB (range wise: looked best for the role from FRWL through TB).

5. Dalton - in TLD (and slightly before - but still good for the part YEARS later).
6. Brosnan looked best for the part in TND (although GE is my favorite Brosnan movie) - 2nd TWINE.
7. Craig? I like him at the age he is now - but we'll know more later on that.
I must say, I agree with on all points...

Roger Moore: TMWTGG, meeting with Maud Adams.Cold but suave, ruthless and dashing...
Dalton: After Flash Gordon he would have been in his physical prime to star in FYEO. Still looks great in TLD (and LTK), most notably the pretitle and Pushkin interogation scene-that was Bondian.
Brosnan:The Fourth Protocol, and Thomas Crown Affair strike me his most Bondian performances.
Daniel Craig: I hated Tombraider but I recall being impressed by this guy who's name I didn't know...I thought he had a Bondian quality, although his perhaps too rugged appearence and blonde hair made me dismiss him as a serious Bond candidate!

Before I knew he was English I saw that movie and thought it was some American actor!!
As for my pics:
Connery: I think he looks good around Dr. No and FRWL. I've never really ascribed to this theory that Bond has to be a older fellow.
Lazenby: Mid 80's he could have been a great Bond, I believe he was in this late 30's/early 40's at that point.
Moore: I'm going to contradict what I said regarding Connery, but I thought Moore made a great " aged playboy spy" in FYEO.
Dalton: LTK for me, I know that's a minority chioce, but Dalton's Bond really did come off as a world weary agent in that film.
Brosnan: I really don't think he looked unBondian in any of his films, he just loked like Bond all through his run, and that's high praise coming from me.
Criag: I'm tempted to go ahead and say Casino Royale (because I feel he really looks great). But I want to see how he pulls off the dialogue sequences and such first.

Hmmm....with so many movies it's hard to narrow it down, but let's see.
Connery: Sean has never looked "bad" so I can't say that! He looked his most Bondish from "Goldfinger"-"You Only Live Twice" and his personal best was "Thunderball"...He wasn't in the best shape for Diamonds but he still looked good, and 12 yrs later in NSNA he looked as good as YOLT just a aged version of it!
Lazenby:-
Moore: Roger looked great as Bond in either "TMWTGG" or "FYEO"...there is such a gap that it's comparing old and young Roger but those were his best moments. He looked very much the debonair spy in TMWTGG and he had the seasoned pro look in "FYEO", though he took probably the most steep fall in "OP" it's as if he aged 6 years within the span of 2.
Dalton: Looked more like a rough and rugged spy in "TLD" he's like the comic strip version from the 50's and 60's....He looked great.
Brosnan: was probably the best looking Bond ever! Prettier than Roger! lol, But he looked the best in GE. He was a bit too thin..but he looked like a sleeker updated version of Bond and it works really well for him.

Lazenby -- Fighting the thug in his hotel room.
Moore -- For Your Eyes Only: Kicking Loque's car off the edge of a cliff.
Dalton -- Licence To Kill: Infiltrating the hotel.
Brosnan -- GoldenEye: Infiltrating the yacht; encounters the thug, wraps the towel around his head, and pushes him down the stairwell.
Craig -- Casino Royale: [Trailer] Beating up those thugs in the washroom; especially when he kicks that one guy into the urinal!

- Most Bondian in Dr. No
- Least Bondian in Diamonds Are Forever (not counting NSNA)
George Lazenby
- Most Bondian in OHMSS pre-titles
- Least Bondian at the end
Roger Moore
- Most Bondian in The Spy Who Loved Me when dealing with Stromberg at the end
- Least Bondian when he spent the night asleep in a chair in A View To A Kill instead of with Ms. Sutton!
Timothy Dalton
- Most Bondian during the ending sequence with Sanchez in Licence To Kill
- Least Bondian when he delivered the lethargic "Bond, James Bond" at the beginning of The Living Daylights
Pierce Brosnan
- Most Bondian during PTS of GoldenEye
- Least Bondian in the North Korean prison in Die Another Day

Lazenby- The beach fight and the attack on Piz Gloria.
Moore- The questioning of the bullet maker and assaulting Scarmanga's woman in The Man with the Golden Gun.
Datlon- All of The Living Daylights, most notably the sniper scene and when he's interogating Pushkin.
Brosnan- Sipping down vodka alone in Tomorrow Never Dies and the banker scene at the begining of The World is Not Enough.
Craig- I can't decide! He looks great throughout the whole teaser.

I forgot about that part. It would definitely be in my top 3 Moore Bondian moments!

Lazenby - Er, OHMSS perhaps

Rog - LALD, he looked lean and mean
Dalton - The pre-title sequence of TLD
Brosnan - The pre-title sequence of TND
Craig - Layer Cake - when he's waiting in the hotel room and the girl knocks on the door, he stops to finish his drink before answering it. Classic cool!
MOORE
- Interrogating Lazarr in TMWTGG
- Kicking the Mercedes off the cliff in FYEO
- Shooting Drax's sniper the tree in Moonraker
I would add to this list the backgammon scene in OP, when he takes Kamal's dice and throws a double six. He doesn't even look at the dice, he just stares at Kamal and announces "double six". Now that's Bond!

Or fortunately, depending on your point of view.Unfortunately, none of them looked entirely like me.

Connery: TB, generally. But the Shrublands night scene and the bit in the bathroom with the shoes...flawless.
Lazenby: Pretty Bond-looking for most of the film, but particularly during the Piz Gloria assault.
Moore: "What a helpful chap."
Dalton: The sniper scene in TLD; "Stuff my orders. If he fires me, I'll thank him for it." Ooh. He's not in trouble. He is trouble.
Brosnan: Vodka-swilling in the Hamburg hotel room in TND. Oddly, I also find the moment in TWINE where he meets Zukovsky in the caviar factory (whilst holding the bystander hostage) to be pretty Bondian. "Get lost. No, no, no. Down the back."
Craig: May be a bit early to tell, but he looks pretty badass in the Parkour sequence.

Overall, I think each Bond actor was Ian Fleming' James Bond. Although at times less than usual, the character still retained, in the movies, the core of his character.
Now, lets go on:
Sean Connery: In my opinion, he was most Fleming in DR. NO and From Russia With Love. This was the cold blooded b*stard who would do anything to succeed on his mission. If I could, I'd add NSNA to equation. However, if I had to choose one movie, it'd be DR. NO.
Roger Moore: Easy. For Your Eyes Only. He was tough, cruel, in another word, dangerous. Ruthless, also (Locke, anyone?). In that movie, he was, rarely, the most less Roger Moore Bond.
Timothy Dalton: I think LTK gets my vote here. TLD has among others, the cinematic quality of Bond. In LTK, he's savage, yet civilized. He's angry, yet never incopetent. Like others have said, LTK is probably the Bond story Fleming would most probably have written, had he lived in the 80's, and Dalton represents that thought, excellently.
Pierce Brosnan: Though GE is fairly Fleming, cinematic elements of Bond are also present (understandable, since this was Bond's re-introduction to the new world of cinema). So, I will have to say TWINE. If anything, Electra's death screams of Fleming! Another story Fleming might've written had he been alive, another actor who represent that thought, brilliantly!
Overall, I think the portrayl of Bond hasn't been much un-Bond, IMO. However, there were instances where I think Bond's cinematic qualities and charactertistics overwhelmed the Fleming factor. Such occassions would include:
YOLT
DAF
MR
AVTAK
Rare occasions, but in those films, Bond was a caricature. With no dimension, or whatsoever. I don't say I don't like the movies or the actors and their performances, but... Bond was always cruel. Cold. Ruthless. And these qualities were conflicted with his upbringing and his well nature, his sophistication and style. Bond, as Dalton, and more recently Brosnan, have said, is a man of contradiction. He contradicts himself, with his actions and such. And in the above, Bond was either
1) A sleeping carpet
2) An overweight, reckless dope
3) A travel agent with PLENTY of gadgets to save him from his thinking
4) An old, laughable excuse for a "fit" and trim agent.
These movies excluded, Bond's portrayal and behaviours didn't seem to off in any of the movies. Sure, sometimes he was heavier, sometimes he was lighter, and sometimes he just about the right amount. But then, his behaviour was a result of the time in which he acted... And are the Bond films, as well as the novels, a representative of the times in which they are released?
