yup, I can't remember which plot goes with which book title, but some of the stories were well worth making into films.... same goes for Bensons's stuff.

Somewhere else on this site (of course, I can't remember where), it was pointed out how much of the non-Fleming books found their way into Bond movie scripts, without buying the book rights.

The thread you refer to is:

http://debrief.comma...p?showtopic=323

Basically, CBn members pointed out similarities between the Gardner and the EON movies in a list that was eventually turned into a main page story.

Some compelling evidence.

I agree in as much as I think that films based on books work much better than films dreamt up as scripts.

I think that generally books are more grounded and have better dialogue, when people write straight to a script they tend to get carried away. Have Purvis or Wade ever written a book?

Of course I think the problem with the recent Bond films wasnt that the basic story was bad, just that somewhere between writing the script and making the film things went a bit wrong.

I'd like to see them make some of the non-Fleming novels into films. I think that Benson's Doubleshot and Never Dream of Dying would make good films, as would For Special Services.

Not always the case though. Frederick Forsyth once said that the hardest thing he faced when adapting one of his books for the screen was dialogue.

I think the the Poeple at Eon should buy the rights to the other Bond books written by John Gardener,Kingsly Amis and Remond Benson and turn them into Bond films.

They don't want to, they apparently feel they pay Ian Fleming Publications enough as it is.

I have not read any of the post-fleming books so don't really know how suitable they would be, but as Babs has mentioned that Bond 22 will be an original story continuing on from Casino Royale, I imagine they will source elements from the novels as they did with Die Another Day and the other original stories (DAD lended elemtents from moonraker and doctor no I believe, although I can't be sure) whether they continue and source from the other authors entries will be seen but I doubt we will see entire cinematic adaptations of any more books. it seems likely they will want to cover the ground from the early novels which may not have been elaborated on, this would make a nice story arc for 3 or 4 craig films, but very fleming dependent... maybe for bond number 7!

Quantum of Solace barely qualifies as a Bond story at all....
