In Moonraker, it says:

"And what could the casual observer make of him, Commander James Bond, GMG, RNVSR, also "something at the minestry of defence",...."

I get that RNVSR is the Royal Naval Volunteer Supplementary Reserve which Bond could have possibly been in, but what is GMG? Does anyone know? I know of the obvious CMG (which Bond gets in 1953 per From Russia with Love 'Death Warrant' or 1954 per the Obit in You Only Live Twice) and a GCMG, which Bond never has, as well as the KCMG that he is offered at the end of The Man with the Golden Gun, but .. what the hell is a GMG? Searching the Internet on this one gets me nothing.

Is that a typo or something made up by Fleming?

Isn't it KCMG?

KCMG

EDIT: CMG is part of it, sorry. I think Bond was upgraded to a KCMG later on in the series.

With such questions, it would be very helpful to give the edition and the page number. Makes it easier for others to find out if it is like this in other editions as well.

I guess it's a typo.

As I noted, in The Man with the Golden Gun he was offered KCMG, but declined because Bond enjoys anonimity or something to this effect.

It doesn't explain "GMG" in Moonraker, regardless.

The link I gave also explains CMG.

Just a bit of trivia relating to the CMG/KCMG...

In For Your Eyes Only the St. Georges sank in the Ionian Sea. Tenuous, I know, but possibly just a co-incidence or a delicious little in-joke by Maibaum, Wilson & Co.
