Can you remember how many pages it is? It's just that on the commentary track of the DVD both he and the director said that the first draft was 400 pages long!

I read it and really enjoyed it. It's told in first person, which I usually don't like, but worked really good here. The way all the characters talk took me a little while to get used to, but really liked it when I did. The movie stayed pretty close to the novel except changing a few things and left out a sub-plot or two. If I'm remembering right most of the changes are in the final act, which sorta threw me off a bit when watching the movie and got a bit confussed. I'll definately pick up the rumored sequel novel that the guy is writing. Any news on that by the way if anyone knows?
Does XXXX die in the end of the book too as in the movie or does in the book he drives away with Tammy as in the alternative endings?

I'm pretty sure I want to read this book and naturally don't want to know the ending even though it may be the one finally used in the movie.
Has there been a movie tie-in release of the book? I can't say I've seen it in the bookshops at all.

The US movie tie-in edition has the original poster art for the cover, which is the one I have. I just happened to come across it when browsing Barnes & Noble one day. It was just around the time Craig was announced as Bond, and I had been planning on seeing Layer Cake, so when it caught my eye on a shelf I snatched it up without a second thought. The movie is one of those movies that does really good justice to the book while still taking some liberties. Both the book and the movie are very plot-heavy, so as time goes by things start slipping out of my head, and could benefit from re-reading the book sometime. I hope Connolly has a long career ahead of him, because I love his writing style.
the book is great, and it's loyalty is due to J.J connoly writing the screenplay, and when it's taken liberites is Matthew Vaughn thinkig the original was too much like Lock,Stock and two smoking barrels (or so he claims on the commentary

Vincent Vaughn should have directed Casino Royale.

Yeah, I saw that. Great movie.
Vincent Vaughn should have directed Casino Royale.
Nah Vincent aka Vince Vaughn is doing his thing with Jennifer Anniston. Matthew Vaughn directed Layer Cake. Considering he produced and directed that film for 4 million pounds, you'd have to think he'd give a Bond film an interesting "look."
If you watched the interview on the DVD, Vaughn was asked how was he able to make the film look that good for 4 million and he responded, "it's all about where you put the camera."
I wonder if Craig/CR become successful, would he offer Vaughn's name to EON as a possible director on a future Bond film?

Well, he was about to do X3 before he bowed out due to creative differences.
