You think this may be the teaser poster?

No.
That's an old fan-made poster using the original logo and the graphics from the official site.

Definitely not the teaser poster. An image of Daniel Craig will almost certainly be on the teaser poster so that they can sell him to the public as James Bond.

Anyone have a status update on the poster? Weren't we supposed to see something by end of January?

I believe so, but things were obviously pushed back.

It's really strange that they're waiting so long.

Well.. they just had that huge press day in March and released a ton of promotional images. I imagine that they'll hold off on the teaser poster till.. say.. next month and then release that with some other stuff (interviews with Jeffrey Wright) causing another wave of news. Then in May: the teaser trailer.
You gotta figure they're gonna do something just about every month up to release.

I know they've put out a lot of material, but it's all been unofficial. I'm surprised they haven't put out an official image since Craig was first announced. I would have expected some kind of poster by this point, if only a series of "mini-posters" featuring individual characters (which are lame, but at least help to expose the film). CR is less than seven months away at this point. I'm sure we were seeing DAD posters by March of 2002. Am I wrong?

I don't remember in comparison to Die Another Day, but Die Another Day was also more of a sequel. Not to say this isn't (reboot of the franchise aside), but Casino Royale has a new actor as Bond and thus a higher interest than, say, Bond 21 starring Brosnan. So I think to really keep the film in the forefront of public's mind, they're going to evenly distribute the material more than they did for Die Another Day. To maintain the interest. In comparison to DAD, I know we would have found out the artist who is writing the song by now. That could be an April thing or a summer thing.
This month we got a ton of promotional images that were pretty cool. The one with him and the Walther (full page spread in the Sun: "Who you calling Octopussy?"), Bond and M, Eva Green, Murino and the horse, Bond at the computer, and another with Bond in black holding a gun. That's not bad.
I obviously could be wrong here, but I think it's a good idea to spread it out.
