I was just thinking that Toby Stephens could make a fine Bond as he has the right face, height and can carry suits very well.

How can EON overlook him as bond.

I would much rather have Daniel Craig as James Bond than Gustav Graves.

Toby Stephens is a fine actor (and I thought that they didn't give him anything to work with in Die Another Day and that he was very misused in that film), but I can't see him as 007. Perhaps another turn as a villain, and a more serious villain at that, would be better.

Same reason they overlooked Sean Bean, he already played a villian.

Toby has a great "cruel mouth" (he talks about that smile/sneer thing he has going on in that article link on the front page). I wouldn't mind seeing what he could do with the role. I wonder if he hadn't played Graves then would he have screentested for Bond last year?

When I saw him in DAD I thought that he would be a great actor for a young Bond. I loved the fact that Col. Moon based Graves on a warped mirror image of Bond.

My sentiments exactly. Even then, Graves was one of the best things about DAD (and one of the only reasons I bother watching it, along with Brosnan and the quality of the first half).

Unfortunately, those who have said he lost his chance just as Sean Bean did are right. For all we know, though, he might not even have wanted it. Seems like Stephens would have been even more skeptical of the opportunity than Daniel Craig was.

I totally agree with you. Toby Stephens would have been a great younger Bond. In fact there is a Bond avatar in the Literary Bond Avatar Gallery that looks like him! (The opltd2 avatar).

Unfortunatelly EON couldn't have picked him because he was the villain in DAD.

Iam not surprised.More people will agree with me and why not.Give me one good reason why he could not make a good bond candidate.

He's a great actor, but I can't really see him as a Bond, just because he's already played a villain.

He certainly could have the look to be so for many fans, but at this point, Craig and other contenders seem like better choices to me.

Toby Stephens as Bond? Ugh. He was already bad enough in DAD as a rather camp villain with his camp sneer. And now we want to transfer those characteristics to Bond?

Toby Stephens is indeed a very good actor, and to properly appreciate this it would probably be useful to see his non-DIE ANOTHER DAY work. I cannot see him as the cinematic Bond (and in any event I am more than content with the choice of Craig), however in some respects Gustav Graves may be a lot closer to Fleming's Bond than much that we have seen on screen.

I watched some of that dreadful ITV drama he was in last night and couldn't help thinking how good a Bond candidate he would have been. I think he would have done very well.

He was bad because he had limited oppurtunities to show how good he could be
as the script had no depth to show his talent.See his other works on TV and then judge his candidature.

Bond villians have no oppurtunity to show their acting talents.

His nostrils flare up when he gets angry

Toby Stephens is a great actor and one of the best things about Die another Day but he's a bit too public school to be Bond and not really 'manly enough'.

Too ugly, too chinless fop. Two reasons. Yes, I know next you'll be telling me that DC's ugly, and I can see where you're coming from but, as I think has been proved by various polls in highly intellectual publications like 'New Woman' magazine and others, DC has a manliness or an animal magnetism or whatever you want to call it that is distinctly lacking in Toby Stephens, but that makes women want to do very rude things to him. Like it or not, convincing women to sleep with you is a fairly important part of being a notorious womaniser. Nice bloke though, Toby Stephens. Could have been a much better Bond villain than he was given the opportunity to be.

I disagree totally with the idea of Toby Stephens as Bond. He strikes me as too much of a soft little toff, and I don't see much charisma there either.

Having said that, and no disrespect meant towards anyone, but I could potentially see why Roger fans would like the idea - he's sort of more in his mold than anything else (i.e. posh rather than rough).
