OK, here's my favorite part of the novel. As Bond is ready to be tortured, Le Chiffre says "this is not a romantic love story where the vilain is offed and and the hero gets the girl" (I changed wording to avoid lawsuit to this site). I think this part should underline the whole philosophy of the new movie ie SURPRISES. I believe the whole dialogue (not just that line) should be an integral part of the scene, be it changed or not, the meaning should be here.

This should not be a regular Bond movie, but a "blows all expectations" one. The formula should be shaken, not stirred.

What do you guys think ? Will it be there ? Will the producers have the balls to let the book philosophy up there on screen, and rip apart 40 years of tradition ? I say a resolute yes of encouragement, for that exchange being in there, and the movie being different.

I agree. That was excellent dialogue.

Yes, stamper, that is a brilliantly irreverent line. One of the reasons I enjoyed Casino Royale. Fleming clearly saw the need to take a swipe at the standard, romantic literary fare of the time. What's important is that line foreshadows the later events in the novel, the idea that things will not work out as we expect them to. And, in CR, they will certainly not. It'll be very interesting to see the audience's reaction to it. Done right, it will be a hell of a shock.

That line got me in love with Fleming. I mean his writing, he was dead by the time I read it and I'm no necrophiliac.
On lastest news posted on this site, the last line of the book will be the last line of the movie.
CR is a masterpiece in the making already.

I remember back when I first read Casino Royale. When I finished it I tried to envision it as a film, never in my wildest dreams would I think they'd use the line!

I love this film already.
