Is that CR has something that FYEO and LTK didn't have.. a built in sequel set up. Stax and Latino Review both confirmed the presence of a character named White, who appears "here and there", and we don't really find out who he works for.

So let's say that CR is found to be a bit too "minimalist" for the tastes of many. They will think "well, they've left enough open for a sequel which will be bigger and better, this is a warmup to the main event." Then #22 can bring back White and reveal him to be part of a S.P.E.C.T.R.E. like organization, and then you get your old style adventure while preserving the new continuity.

But me, I'm thinking this entry might restore some of Bond's street cred, he's become the stuff of parody in some circles.

Interesting thoughts Mr. Beavis. I'm hoping that the next three films form kind of a loose trilogy (but still work as stand-alone films, of course), involving this potential SPECTRE-like organisation.

Though personally, I don't see Casino Royale as being comparable to For Your Eyes Only and Licence to Kill. I think the problem with FYEO and LTK is not that they're "gritty" or "minimalist", but simply that they're weak and kind of bland. Casino Royale sounds like it's going to have alot more flavour to it. And while the CR novel is a "smaller" story, it's not like this is going to a low budget film. It's not going to have that "James Bond: The Television Series" vibe that FYEO and LTK have. And they've gone back to the "great international actors who are famous in thier own countries but are unknown to the rest of us".

I think CR will have alot of things that FYEO and LTK didn't have.

(P.S. I've moved this topic to the SPOILERS forum, as you can see.)

Perhaps, for the first time since the early Connery films we may get direct sequels to a Bond with no loose countinuity. Just look at the countinuity of the previous Bat-films for example and at the new Batman Begins which is also the beginning of a new trilogy/franchise. It looks like we may see the same here.

I agree (with the original poster). I do think we'll see a villian survive CR and appear again to pose a more personal threat to Bond in #22. And based on the little know I'm privy to, I would also venture to bet that it's Mr. White.

I said it just yesterday I think.. (not sure. all blurring together) but considering CR may consist of:

A superbly acted and tightly scripted romance between Bond and Vesper...
followed by a tragic end to that romance...
followed by the fateful last line...
followed by a last shot of the main, mysterious villian still alive to wreak more havoc with Bond in the future...
followed by "James Bond Will Return in [place your bets]...

THEN starting pulling out the ol' "2007" promotion gimmicks, and we could see Bond #22 to be the most highly anticipated action film of 2007.

Then watch the creators of craigisnotbond.com begin to question their reason for being.
