And what's this business about the pedestrian XKR eclipsing the XJ220? 542 hp, 3025 lbs, and 212 mph? This doesn't sound like the most reputable magazine.
'Pedestrian'? The piece says it may eclipse the XJ220 in being the fastest accelerating Jag ever. The XJ220 did 0-60 in just over 3 seconds, the current XKR can do it in just over 5 seconds. Hardly pedestrian and hardly impossible that the new one will improve on it.

Sorry.
Too many fins and vents on the front and side... looks like my 11 year old nephew's idea of a cool car.
I like Astons for their curves. They're beautiful but understated. They don't need the vents and fins of other supercars - they've got it wher it counts and they don't need to shout about it.
This looks like the Max Power Vectras that chav's race around the estates.
Shame.

Here's hoping that Felix will drive a Shelby coupe. He and Bond could street race, eh?

Impossible? No. Extraordinarily improbable? Yes. The last XKR had 400 hp, weighed over 3800 lbs, and hit 60 in about 5.2 seconds as you said. The new XK8, WITH the aluminum construction, weighs over 3700 lbs. The XKR will weigh about the same or slightly more due to the added performance hardware (supercharger). Therefore it would have to have over 650 hp to even match the power to weight ratio of the XJ220. The new XK8 has 300 hp. Do you really think that they're going to raise the price of their ~$80,000 high-end sports coupe to ~$200k plus, and turn it into an all-out, pavement tearing monster? They would never be able to compete with Ferrari and the other high-end manufacturers, just like the XJ220 couldn't. I guarantee the XKR will not do 0-60 mph under even four seconds, high fours sounds about right.

I'm sure you're right, but my main objection was that to use the word 'pedestrian' to describe a 400bhp car that can do 0-60 in under five seconds and then calling a magazine 'less than reputable' for spouting a similarly dubious fact is a bit hard to swallow.
I do rather wish that Bond got to drive the Rapide in CASINO ROYALE:
Wouldn't he look a bit like a chauffeur?

Bond would look less like a boy racer!

Only pedestrian when compared to the XJ220. And a reputable magazine simply wouldn't get something that horribly wrong.

That new Aston looks like dog vomit.

I think dog vomit is a little strong, but it does look a little Americanised to me, or a bit Maserati-like. Not as good as a classic AM, but it's still pretty good. If someone were to offer me one, I wouldn't turn it down.

I expect the new car will be destroyed in CR, but I hope the DB5 will survive.

Don't like it. Looks to much like it's trying to imitate the ugly Ferrari's or Lamborghini's. I liked Aston's for their curves, this just spits on it. I might warm up to it though -- will need to see it in action.
My thoughts, exactly. I got into Aston's through the Bond connection and have been obsessed ever since with them as a much classier but still equal counter-part (in regards to performance) to Ferarri, Porsche etc. However, this one strikes me as a little obscene. Lose the flares, adjust the wheelbase and keep the fliptail and they'll have a winner.
I still don't see the need for another model, though. First of all, the three existing models are similar enough and now this one looks like a Vanquish with a body kit. Secondly, a major part of Aston's appeal is that it's a niche marque and if they don't stop expanding, they'll become as common-place as Porsches (particularly those silly little Boxsters that every professional under 30 seems to drive).
