He was just on Craig Ferguson's show and said he was still working on the script for the movie. He teased like he was going to reveal the Bond girl and then said he didn't know who it was. He said as of this morning (taped 2/13) they had not cast Vesper but "they're really narrowing it down".

They usually keep going over the script ever during filming by editing, rewriting, etc. Not uncommon.

I think they should cast Lee Tamahori as the sacrificial girl lamb

I think that was the original plan - sadly he's not available anymore.

Quite. Look at Tomorrow Never Dies's script history.

I hope the Casino Royale script won't need that many dodgy patches!

The Tomorrow Never Dies one turned out fine in the end.

I was never a fan of that kung fu scene they added to the movie.

It was to establish that Yeoh's character wasnt your typical Bond girl.

Eh, I and many other people would dispute that. It definitely needed quite a few more rewrites.

Still, I thought it was a decent Bond film.

I thought it was more because the suddenly realised she could fight and decided to have a kung foo scene in the middle of the movie.

And preferably before they started shooting!

I'll second that.

I'm glad to hear that Haggis is the one doing the late re-writing. I wasn't sure if he came in for a polish (note the lower-case "p") and left the script on the desk of P&W to do with what they will after Haggis inked it up. Sort of a "shoot in and out", as Bros would say.

I feel better knowing Haggis has had it all along. Not that I was feeling that bad about things anyway.

I thought it was interesting that when Craig Ferguson said he had dated Fiona Fullerton, Haggis said he had never seen AVTAK

Granted, AVTAK isn't exactly 'classic' Bond, but I would have thought if you're going to write a Bond script, you should have a knowledge of all the prior movies, if only so you don't write a scene that's already been done.

Are you suggesting that Haggis might want to add an action scene with a firetruck or a shotgun loaded with rocksalt?

No, I'm suggesting Daniel Craig should make a quiche.

Perhaps he wanted to go in uncontaminated, so to speak? If you're being asked to bring something fresh to the series it's probably a bad idea to stuff your head full of what others have done before. Especially in the case of a film like AVTAK, which has a very different vibe from what Eon appear to be going for in Casino Royale.

That's what the producers are there for, on the off-chance he writes something that happens to be an exact ripoff of another movie.

We know he's read the book and he surely has seen a fair number of the films... that's enough to get an understanding of the character.

I doubt if I would know who Fiona Fullerton was if I hadn't seen AVTAK...
