is there any particular order that the 007 books go in? I never thought it really mattered but i am not sure. thanks!

It's best to read them in the order they were written. That's what I do.

It depends. Continuity is rather spotty. I would say read them in order, but if you don't at least make sure you read Casino Royale and Live and Let Die prior to From Russia with Love. I think you'll be ok with the rest so long as you've seen the films. Dr. No and TMWTGG might be a little WTF if you haven't read the ones prior to it though.
