Sounds cool as hell. I'm sold on CASINO ROYALE. We have a winner, folks. The story sounds excellent (the background for Le Chiffre is a wonderful contemporary revisioning), Bond seems to be acting like James Bond, and this sounds like the edgiest entry in the series. Heck, this new material they've added to CASINO ROYALE all sounds great - even Bond's grabbing ahold of the Aston Martin DB5.

November can't come soon enough.

I love it, I love it, I love it!!! Everything in the script sounds soooo cool! I like how they are going to put the Main Title with Bond's old pics and stuff.

Get on with the casting, finish the film and show it already!!!

Yup. We pretty much know what the plot will be. They seem to have kepted the last 2/3 of the novel intact even including the "ballbusting" scene and we have learned how the film has been updated and what will happen before the novel takes over for the rest of the film. Right now I'm stoned so I'll take a break for a bit. Yes, there is alot to discuss. Where to begin?

Goodness me; sounds fascinating. I'm almost not sure about how Bond's character will turn out, but I'm very interested to see this now.

Well, let's start at the very beginning.

The pre-title sequence: Bond assassinates a traitor within MI6. Sounds great to me, and a nice reinvention of the assassination attempts recalled in Fleming.

What EON has decided to do for the Main Titles also sounds great... I wonder what the theme will be? It's a shame they can't use Shirley Bassey's "Where Do I Begin (AwayTeam Mix)" because it would be perfect.

This really sounds interesting and just the way to do justice to the novel while updating it. Also it seems to be the most realistic Bond film since TLD, but tougher than the first Dalton outing - and more fun than LTK. Craig seems to be absolutely the right guy for this. The only question will be: Will the audience go along for such a down-to-earth spy thriller? They went with "Bourne" - and that

Sounds absoultely brilliant. I am glad it's staying quite contemporay. There maybe only one explosion, but from the sound of this we'll be blown away with the action scenes.
I for one can't wait until November, roll on 40 weeks to go.

It's not that down to earth; just sort of a Bond-y version of down to earth; like TLD. Fine by me.

Is it me or does this put continuity and disregarding the previous movies to rest - sure, in the pre-titles we learn how Bond gets his 00. However, if there is no implict indication that the post-credits action immedatiately follows, there is the chance - for those who want it- to insert the old movies into the gap. Just like the GE pre-credits occuring BEFORE TLD and LTK?

It doesn't seem as if M trusts Bond yet; which would be tricky if he'd saved the world a dozen times for her. It's a new Bond- I'm happy.

We'll see - it does sound as if some of M's gripes with the whole "I give him a Double-O" thing may be a bit clearer as to the stuff with Bond just starting out and such. I mean, it could go either way, but it definitely seems as if Bond's relative newness to his station will be discussed.

Sound really interesting, but wait to see what's left of this script on screen we know they are often revised for the worst.

I like the fact that the "relic of the cold war" is now M instead of Bond, Dame Judi just fit perfectly in the role, and I guess it's gonna be more fun and WINE of DAD... now bring on the real teaser trailer please.

Sure, but she didn't have a high opinion of Brozza-Bond in GE (on the surface) and he'd ahd quite a successful career)...

"I gave him his double 0" COULD be interpreted as the M continuing to sanction Bond as an agent? Ditto GE?

Could be me being over optimistc. BUT I see nothing that TOTALLY contradicts the existence of the old films nor does Dench-M seem to stick out.

I quite like the reboot idea, and I think CASINO ROYALE as presented here works best as an origin story. Viewing it as "just another adventure" for Bond ruins all of this film's appeal. This film is about the rookie, arrogant Bond getting broken in, so to speak, and that's important.

And just because of what the review says doesn't mean it's not stated more implicitly in the film that Bond's just entered the service. And note that M states that Bond "celebrates" his Double-O status by attacking the embassy. It seems clear as a reference to his just having received it.

I don't understand why fans are so desperate to jump through tons of hoops just to say, "CASINO ROYALE wasn't a reboot!" It damages the film to try to force it into that framework, rather than accepting it on its own merits.

Wow... I guess that settles all the arguments about Bond Begins etc. Sounds really cool. I'm not a great fan of the whole Bond earning his OO, but if they've gotta do it, I'm glad they're doing it well. After Die Another Day we needed a reboot - and now we'll have it. Wow.

Like you, I have no real trouble with a reboot and agree it could be more explicit in the movie than this script review.

Why will fans hope and try to fit it into the existing sequence? Perhaps because they have a high regard for those films that have gone before?

Heh- well I skimmed it- I don't want to know the detail but I got an idea of the feel. And it only gives you the setup to the main mission- there's no Casino Royale stuff in there (the location, not the the film!).
