Recent reports over at MI6 talked to RC2 about their upcoming model of the DBS from CASINO ROYALE, and the comment was made:

"I do know what the gadgets are and I can reveal that they are inside the car," said Ray Wootton, RC2's head of sales and marketing who added: "but I cannot give details at this stage. What I can say is that the model DBS will feature great action as all our Bond cars have in the past."

So are the gadgets non-action related? The MI6 main page does cite that "RC2 have announced a 1/18th scale Aston Martin DBS premium model, with gadgets never before seen in a James Bond model car." So are they other sorts of gadgetry (not the usual rockets, etc.)? Or will we be be seeing another gadget-laden car chase?

The last thing I want is another gadget-filled car chase (though I do want a car chase, as it is in the original novel, anyhow), but I'm certainly not going to object to the car having some other gadgets (a weapon tray, for instance, or a special satellite link-up, or something else). I'm not opposed to the car chase on grounds of the "gritty, realistic" vibe, because after all, THE LIVING DAYLIGHTS had a pretty big car chase with some fairly outlandish stuff too and that worked well enough. The actual reason I object is that I think the "gadget showcase"-style of car chase has been played out in the Brosnan years with both TOMORROW NEVER DIES and DIE ANOTHER DAY.

If they could build suspense and have a legitimately thrilling car chase along the lines of FYEO, a few gadgets (not rockets) could add a little something. But really, a gadgetless and suspensful chase would rock.

I'm actually kind of pleased that they are not gone all together. I think if done right, gadgets in the car could retain a bond feel without having them be campy. Stuff that is a little more down to earth, and a bond that is not used to using the toys in his pursuits (not fumbling mind you, but a little more awkward than Pierces' "pick up the cell phone for the first time and do donuts" kind thing).

I want the gadgets to be along the lines of the Silver Beast from Gardner's novels. That vehicle was fairly gadget-heavy, but all the devices were very grounded and utilitarian.

I've heard that there aren't many gadgets in the film; but there are a couple. The car certainly has a couple, but I don't think it's anything crazy.

Groan. The idea of a gadget laden Aston Martin bores me like I can't tell you. This has been DONE TO DEATH.

Personally I wished they would put Bond back into antique cars. In this day and age I don't see 007 in a 1933 Bentley, but how about a Jaguar from the 1960's? That would be contemporary with the original Connery films.

Would it be too far a stretch to have Bond in his '33 Bentley? I know they're updating CR to modern times, so maybe it would seem outdated...

Well, we're still not sure *what* gadgets they are referring to. MI6 did claim that they haven't been seen before... so maybe we'll have some more unusual and non-weapon oriented stuff. Who knows.

The idea of a gadget laden Aston bores me to tears, though, too. It went as far as it could go with DIE ANOTHER DAY.

I can see the dialogue now:

Q: Now listen up, Bond. We've outfitted your Aston with some new developments. This right here is the Quantum Flux Capacitor. Been in development for some time. It wasn't until I had a nasty spill in the bathroom that I thought of it.

BOND: Well what does it do?

Q: Time travel.

BOND: Time travel? You must be joking.

Q: I never joke about my work, 007.

It hardly sounds laden: the gadgets are 'are inside the car'. Not exactly out of this world. I presume there is slightly more than the glovebox medikit and radio, but it doesn't sound like there's much more.

A couple tricks are fine as long as it's not Bond just pushing buttons on his car to blow up all the bad guys.

Keep it real and minimal.

I quite liked the transmitter/print out bit in GE.

A medi-kit (as has been rumored) is perfect for the unused weapons tray in the DB5 or DBS.

No machine guns, rockets, invisibility etc.

A few simple utilitarian devices or equipment.

I agree with those who have said the simpler the devices and features, the better. None of the "usual refinements" this time around, I hope. A break from the do-it-all vehicle fest that borders on being a Transformer battle would be nice. Save that for Bond 22, and let us just have an actual car chase for once.

"with gadgets never before seen in a James Bond model car"

Could this just be the usual toy business. Like having an 'Arctic Adventure' Batman toy, or a 'Ninja Kick' Spiderman toy. These things are not always directly tied to the film. They often take few liberties.

Not with THESE models, which seek to recreate exactly the film. These are more toys than they are collectibles.

I bet it won't have any beyond what you can probably buy in a premium car now a days. At best I think it'll have GPS and OnStar capabilities. I'd say thats it. Maybe.. a 6 CD.. no no .. DVD-A changer.

Well put. Make them something that is unique but not ridiculous.
