Clive Owen is "Agent 006" in The Pink Panther

Another idea would be to bring back Clive Owen for a sequel and team up Inspector Clouseau with 006. Just imagining Clouseau and "James Bond" being forced to work together to solve a crime just tickles me pink. Plus it wouldn't hurt for Clive to do more comedy.

Pierce Brosnan would be better as "The Phantom" aka Sir Charles Lytton, the jewel theif who steals the Pink Panther diamond in several of the films.

I like that with Pierce! But Clive just didn't work as a Bondian 006.

Don't get me wrong I'm really excited about seeing Daniel Craig as 007 but with the USA being the biggest market, EON might be in trouble....

i find it interesting that 99% of the American revfiews of the pink panther say after seeing it, they are sure Clive Owen should have been Bond.

Hmmmmmmm.........I live in America and I make it a habit to read all the movie reviews I can grab and I did not see one(ok I think I can now remember one out of many saying that) that said that. The most any of them said he was rumored to be Bond at one time but offer no further comment. And I repeat seeing him in this Bondian role--shows he's not a Bond type IMO.

Given that Owen was a hot and widely discussed candidate for the Bond gig, and that he's playing a Bond spoof in the movie, I would find it odd if the connection wasn't mentioned in reviews. I'm not too sure that it matters though.

One thing that really surprised me was the intensity of the opening crime scene flashback. The techno-score plus the shakey Gladiator-type camera work during the celebration on the soccer field had me wondering whether I was about to see a real spy-action film, rather than a comedy.
And to echo some thoughts above, Clive was a geek as 006. "One number short of the big-time" indeed.

Does it have a title sequence? With an animated Pink Panther?
Sure does. If I remember correctly, they are exact same figures from the original PPs. Poor little Inspector Clouseau cartoon guy still getting hornswaggled by that pesky pastel feline.
My advice to anyone interested in seeing it is to go in expecting a children's movie; you may be pleasantly surprised.

yup..... I went in expecting the worst..... and came away fairly pleased.. still didn't have the spark of the old films tho...

....for more of what I thought it lacked....
as for Clive as 006... I know this was a comdey film and all.... but I'm just not sure he could bring the intensity needed... AND pull off the comic side of Bond as well... he just seemed goofy doing the comedy.... those eyes..... are.... HUGE.... jeez.

I even laughed at the line where he was "One Step From The Big Time" It's too bad, IMHO; that he passed on the chance.

I saw it on Friday and I loved it. Much to Seannery's dismay I think Owen made a teriffic 006

I never bought that story that he passed on it. He was always real vague about it before Craig was announced; "We'll just have to wait and see" at the SIN CITY premiere. Why wouldn't he just have said he didn't want the part? It makes no sense that he would pass on being Bond in a $100 million Eon film if he'll say yes to a cameo as "006" for very little money in a Pink Panther rip-off at the same studio. It'd be like Moore turning down Bond in the seventies so he could play the Bond-like guy in "Cannonball Run."

i wouldn't like to see Brosnan as The Phantom. Brosnan's done enough of that sort of thing. to be perfectly hounest, i'd rather not see Brosnan in any Pink Panther movie!Pierce Brosnan would be better as "The Phantom" aka Sir Charles Lytton, the jewel theif who steals the Pink Panther diamond in several of the films.

i'm also not sure about the idea of teaming up with 006. i would suggest a 006 spin-off, but i'm not sure about that either. might come off too much like Johnny English or something. what we really need is something original.
i will say Steve Martin did a stand-up job in my role, though... excellent film, IMO! ;-)

Well I thought it was an absolute laugh riot. It's actually funnier then a couple of the Seller films. Clive Owen's cameo was one of the film's bests moments. Would love to see him reappear in the just announced Pink Panter sequel.

I'll second that motion.
