The first person to play James Bond on screen was one Barry Nelson, an actor who starred in the 1954 television version of Casino Royale (with Peter Lorre as the bad guy Le Chiffre). CBS, however, ordered that the British secret agent should be an American called "Jimmy Bond". It was a flop.
