Just to let you all know that there is a car magazine on sale at the moment called "Octane"

It contains 9 pages on the DB5 up for auction next month with the cover also given over to this car. There are other bits and pieces about Astons throughout - there are also some for sale.

It is issue 32 - dated February 2006 - and priced at

I've been following since the announcement.

It'll be fun to see what happens.

Presently, I've registered and Miss Bellucci and I will be attending. Whether or not I bid is another matter, but it would be fun to say I actually made on a bid on it down the road.

I doubt I could switch it as easily as Bond with the egg in OP, but I *might* pull it off.

Expect some pics.

I have to say I think it'd be kind of funny if you got stuck with it. "Sold, to the gentleman in the 23rd row who has just turned sheet white."

Anyway, I guess it goes without saying that this isn't the model that was...*ahem*...disappeared about eight years ago.

Trust me, I don't play with what I don't have.

Yes...the great JFK conspiracy of the DB5's - Vanished from a hangar and the owner got a 4.5 mil insurance payout.

Where did it go?

Anyway, the auction and reception should be fun.

The car that disappeared was the original film car. This car is a publicity car. It has never appeared in either movie.

Thanks AM - I was hoping you'd rear your head. Indeed, as I found out as well, this is not one of the original GF cars (as in - used in the film) but one of the two built and used for PR in car shows around the world.

The original with ejector seat panel used in the film is the "missing" one.

The lack of the amber "passing lights" tipped me off.

Ya if you check out our main page article I go into the bit about this being a promotional car...

This DB5 which is up for sale is one of only four James Bond cars originally constructed and used for film, tour and promotional use (Chassis No. DB5/2008/R).

Yeah, I thought this was obvious. The original Goldfinger car was nicked and the one going up for auction was the promotional car.

Trust me, I don't play with what I don't have.

LOL Flash! :D

CUT TO: Dave's Office at CBn HQ

Admiral: (Frustrated) You complete Wanker! You had no business bidding on that car!

Bryce: The original DB5 is downstairs, during the viewing I switched it for a kit car built over a Honda Civic.

Admiral: (appalled) Good Lord! What happens when the owner finds out?

Bryce: (schemingly) He complains...depending on their intentions. Our tail followed them to the airport. The car was loaded onto a custom transport and the FAA reports their flight plan was filed for Milan.

Admiral: I want you on the next flight to Italy.

Bryce: (holding up Air Italia boarding pass) Which I've got just 55 minutes to make.

Admiral: Right then, on your way....and 003?

Bryce: Sir?

Admiral: Just leave the keys...That car's CBn property now.

And even the BBC haven't done their research, still maintaining that Sean drove the car in the films.

Hey All!

Well, she went, and she went fast.

Details and pics to follow in a main-pager, but it was a hoot.

No reserve, but with over 1500 people in the room, it got strangely quiet for an auction and the bidding kicked off at 1 mil. In less than ten minutes and with 14 bids, she went for 1.9 Mil USD.

The new owner is a collector and the rumor is that it's going to be sent out on tour starting in...2007.

I'm beat, but more to follow.

BTW - There was a far more pristine DB5 (although a LHD) that went for 235K. Yes, old Bryce's card went up twice.

Auctioner: Looking for 95...95...95...95,000 - new bidder in the center - Thank you sir.

I just had to say that I bid on one if not THE one.

Met some great AM experts that I talked shop with and of course some Bond fans.

Did some PR for CBn along the way and the Jag got some very appreciative looks as well and I even had two offers. Not bad ones, but no way. Never.

Again, more later.

:D

Great article 003.

I couldn't believe it when I heard that a Swiss lawyer in Bern was a go-between for the buyer.

I considered adding this to the end of the article, but it might be fun for discussion.

If you had bought it, what would you do with it? Granted, if you can afford nearly two million dollars, you should already be doing whatever you damn well please with your life, but if you got this piece of history (hey, it is. Accept it.) what would you do?

Aside from playing with all the gadgets and driving it.

For me - As this wasn't one of the film cars and having 20+ years of studying DB5's I'd do the following presuming I had the right crew to back me up. Again, if money wasn't an issue.

With the exception of the guns, license plates, rear screen and rams, I'd have the original plumbing removed. Intact, to be stored and kept as the original bits they are. Then let's apply some modern engineering. There's just better ways of having the smoke, oil and the caltrop dispensers work along with the ejector seat.

After that, she's showing some rust and chips on the body. Get that covered and replace some of the chrome.

While the dash is still pristine and the car is mechanically sound, the rest of the interior (again, removed and kept) would been redone to showroom standards and the last bit would be installing a custom GPS system behind the radio speaker.

Then, I'd arrange for the insurance and set up some promotional event. It went out on tour once, why not again?

I'm hoping that this car doesn't just end up in a warehouse somewhere with fifty other exotic cars and some guy with a monocle and soft rag polishing it's fenders once a month, but for two mil, you can do as you please.

Yes, she doesn't seem to be exactly in pristine condition. If I had the money to buy that car, I'd also have the funds to give her a complete makeover. I suspect that those spots of rust that can be seen on the bonnet are not the only ones. Dismount completely (of course well documented) and put (at least) a year of work into it. Unfortunately, she'll surely need a new coat of paint. Eventually a few chrome parts replaced (if they're "through"). New interiors where necessary (frankly said, theseats look terrible).

But I'd leave the original gadgetry engineering intact as far as possible - apart from the tracking device (hide a modern navigation system under it) and the radio.

Can't say anything about overall technical condition, but I guess she would need a number of repairs and new parts on that sector as well.

I'd have the right people at hand for the job. The only thing I'm missing is the cash - and the Aston.
